Tamiya tyrrell P34 Japan GP
Hiya folks,
This is the Tamiya tyrrell P34 Japan GP
Driver was not painted as Jody or Pat cos i had to rush it for a F1 meet up (that was ultimately postponed till 06/02/2011 due to inclement weather) on 30/01/2011. Driver was painted with poly paints from inside and will eventually be painted scale (helmet too) and decals applied from the outside with acrylic paints.
Kit was initially built according to instructions but ended up with zero front suspension. I added 2mm shims to each of the front suspension standoffs and used kingpins from other kits (with a bit of creative dremelling) front knuckle ball joints need to be tightened front lightly as they break easily (i broke 3). Other then these issues, it's a beautiful kit! Woohoo!

I like your Tyrrell. What paint did you use to paint the body? May be hard to match "tyrrell blue"

it's...
I'm currently trying out with TRG rears which are super sticky, this may cause some pushing... I've also glued up the stock tamiya rears which are decidedly less sticky and may rectify the pushing.
Having said that, for 2wd F1 pan cars... I can live with the push (as long as it's not like a dump truck... wink!).
Shalom!

I just painted a body and had trouble painting the driver's arms. The paint would not stick! I used a small brush and the black paint was nice and thick and had almost no trouble but the blue was too watery and would pool in the lower areas of the creases. So I mixed the blue with the black to make it thicker but it was still not sticking well. So I mixed more black and it came out darker than I wished. I didn't prep the body - didn't wash it with soap and water. Would it have helped? The paint is water based, btw.
Do you guys paint the driver first and spray the body? Or mask the driver and spray the car first? I painted the driver first...
Any tips would be appreciated.
BTW, the f103gt body is waiting for the Ferrari decals from Hong Kong.

What body is the red full bodied car and what chassis will it fit?
Thanks, Mike

it's a...
It's meant to fit the f103GT chassis, so should fit the f104 as well... with some mods.
primarily, the wheel arches are made for touring sized tires... regular f103 tires will seem a little too small...
have fun!

Very nice chassis...still calling it a floating rear pod I see...

Standard Tamiya chassis hates bumpy tracks, and the F104 would have been slightly to long.
