F104, F104 V2, Exotek F1R, TRG F112 and 3Racing F113 are all 3 link cars, like traditional pan cars. They are currently the most popular, especially the Tamiya. The Exotek requires an original F104 (non V2) donor car. The F113 requires an F104 front end. The Top F1 can also have a narrow front end put on it. VBC is introducing the Flash 04 F1 some time in March.
***Note: The original F104 is a T-bar style car and comes in narrow and wide versions. If you are racing narrow, go straight for any in the first list.
200mm (or greater):
F104 W (Original) T-bar style, F103, 3Racing F109, TRG F111 and the like. These are still great cars, especially if running foam tires.
I have intentionally left out the Pan car F1s. Most venues will not allow them to run with the single fixed nut wheel type cars.
190mm:
3Racing FGX. This is a unique car. It is very inexpensive. The first upgrade will always be the Exotek V2 chassis to replace the cheap plastic upper deck and FRP lower. The second is to install the Exotek lower arm supports. This still makes the car less expensive than the F104 V2 and just as durable. It tips the scales at about 200g more than the F104.
If I've left some out, sorry. I'm just attempting to get the flavour of the class. Most US racers run the 180 to 190, including the FGX on rubber tires, running a 21.5 and no timing ESC. The balance of the world runs 200mm on rubber or foam, depending on event, but typically more on foam with motors from 17.5 to 10.5, both timing and no timing ESCs.
I know, clear as mud, but this is a fun class.

3racing F113 is a complete kit, why do you say that it requires F104 front end?

As you've already got an F104W there's not that many parts actually needed. The F parts contains all the front end plastic parts, and even a set of plastic kingpin pivot balls if you don't want to buy the low friction ones. You will need 35mm turnbuckles, 5mm balls for the upper wishbone mounts and the kingpins, but all the small hardware and steering arms are the same as the F104W.

That means you can go racing for a total of around $500/600

I'm interested in upgrading the front end of my f104W to an f104 front suspension. I've spent a bloody fortune on the car at this point but i'm not satisfied with the lack of wheel / tire options for the 103 front end.
I'm running the exotek f1r chassis. Is an upgrade as simple as purchasing the f104 arms? 51381 suspension arms...
Also, i'm looking to pick up a carbon rear shaft for my f104. Can someone also advise me on which model # to acquire.
Thanks for your help! I'm detailing my new build with pictures this weekend. Excited to share!

You will need the following parts to convert your W into a narrow F104 version
Front suspension arms wit part nr 51381
King pin with part nr 54180
low friction suspension balls with part nr 54161
3x35mm turnbuckle with part nr 53528
I'm using 3x32mm turnbuckle with 5mm reinforced adjuster (51283) on the outside, they are much stronger and they will improve the strenght of the steering rod if you would use alu turnbuckles like i do.
This is the carbon rear axle you want.
carbon rear axle with part nr 54162
Hope this helps
