read the above articles regarding your questions about the diff..

As far as using a one way. If you grip race, you basically won't have breaks and when you do yank the breaks...you rear end will spin and you can spin out way to easily. If you run a regular diff, you have the breaks you will need. Espeically with the low turn motor, you might want to run a diff.

Can someone explain to me the issue so many people seem to be having with the TB02 diffs? I have read a lot of people complaining that they go through diffs quickly, or that they won't ever stay tight causing their car to act more like a 2wd car.

Are these issues seemingly inherent to the diff design or are they more attributed to how people are tightening their diffs, or is there some combination of problems?

I've had several R/C cars now... The TB02 is a good beginner/intermediate race car. Has good suspension system, shaft drive and tub. Unfortunately it came with horrible diff stock...they loosen up no matter what you do. Have to keep tightening them every race. I upgrade to evolution III diff for a smoother more reliable run. The other disadvantage is weight. compared to pro level cars, its a bit heavier, but since it's plastic tub flexes, you get good bite on asphalt and you dont cry after scraping the underside. Another disadvantage is the limited gearing options...I've never had a problem keeping up or beating my competitors in stock races. In fact, I almost always get "tecked" cuz I'm faster in the straights than the others..but never spend enough time to really button down the suspension settings due to lack of racing time. The completely covered drivetrain means you wont get any rocks stuck in your spur or anything. If you dont finish a race...you need to practice more.

Its a great car you can beat up/race/drift.

The diffs are just pure crap. The bearing that goes into the diffs...I blew them both in the same race. The front and back.

I then upgraded to the EVO III heavy duty diffs and walla.....no more broken diffs. As far as the car..it is all around da best. I raced her in my GT class and used her with BL (after upgrading the diff) and she took the track. Made TQ that day and second in the "A" main. So she can handle. I really wouldn't get rid of her, she is like my back up car.

I have had my tb02 since it was released. I tried racing it at my local TCS race in 2004 with only the LWS and TRF shock and I had felt it was a terrible car...
I would look it up on the shelf and wonder what I did wrong, could not figure it out...
Bought a EVO 5 and that car seems unstoppable, enjoy it better then 415msx.
Yesterday decided to give my tb02 another chance, i since installed the braces from the R model and damper stays from the EVO3, put in a silver can the took off to my local track for some hot laps...
The car handled like dream not sure if i got the gearing right though. I have the 55t spur and the 25t pinion, if I install the high speed gear set from the f201 will car respond better?

there is no one part number for it...

you have to get the TA04 ball diff kit, F201 diff rings, and evo 3 diff outdrives white or black, white is supposed to be better, but more expensive.

Of course...you could always buy an evo3 or a tb02 that already has those installed and use it for extra parts.

if you just want the diff halfs the evo number is 50992 at $13 the hop up part is 53627 at $27 hope this helps but remember always replace the nuts

What gearing would you guys suggest for a TB Evolution III Surikarn running a brushless stock motor? The track that I will be running at will be The Coliseum in Frederick, Maryland. It is a combination of technical turns with two relatively long straights. I have a 96t spur, so any help would be most appreciated.
