a couple of 414M questions:
1. is there supposed to be side-to-side play in the rear ball diff? it seems to need a couple of shims near the bearings of the bulkheads. what size of shims should i use?
2. is there a way to fit TA04 front and rear shock towers or do i have to buy 414M specific towers? what are the 414 shock tower part nos?

one more thing, is the c-hub with the holes for the front a-arm available separately? in our lhs, i saw the regular c-hub packaged with the steering knuckle but the 414 c-hub is packaged with the a-arms set. i just need the c-hubs. thanks again for any info

1. Yes, the play in the differential is normal.
2. No, the TA04 shock towers will NOT fit. The holes are completely off.

Okay, I ran my 414 for the first time today. It handles pretty damn good! I think my first guess at a setup was okay. Though I think I needed a tad more on power steering. I've heard taking off the torque rods will give more steering? If so, will I gain over all steering? I probably could have gone to stiffer springs all the way around too for my setup. Plus I could have played with my Droop settings.
Anyways, first impression of the car is quite good! Handled better than my TC3 at this track. But then again my TC3 wasn't setup for here either. I'll be working closely with both of these cars.
I didn't get to run the car all day because it Down Poured. But the runtime was valuable. I won't be goin tooo blindly in the the TCS race next weekend....
One question, for Mod class on a tight parking lot track. Would you recommend goin to front diff center oneway, front diff locked center pulley, or dual oneways? Just look for other peoples suggestions that might have run Mod. I know a oneway would be too much on something like my Mod TC3 on a small tight course.

Try to run less droop up front to get more on power steering. For the one way selection, basically if I am able to get sufficient front bite, I'd run the dual one ways, else I will run full time 4wd.

Hey John! I was actually gonna go to VA Beach this weekend. But my cars AC went bust. Didn't feel like driving all that way with no AC and the threat of rain here. Even though I have a convertable, it was still a damn hot weekend! I'll more than likely make it up for the Trophy race at VA Beach on the 3rd. Can't make it up this coming weekend because of the TCS race in Maryland. You thinking of trading in the Yokomo for one? It's a very nice car!! I love it better than my Yokomo! Anyways, gonna head out and work on the AC........

Just got back from Tokyo today and thought I'd say hello.
I picked up a mag over there, and it showed some interesting pics of some Tamiya driver's 414M's, with their suspension arms almost level.

mmm could they be the 414M SE with the raised suspension blocks? That could explain the level arms...

Boring race this weekend. My car exhibited both on and off power oversteer, and instead of simply removing the rear roll bar I did crap like adjust the kickup, springs and oil. Brought down the oversteer condition with dual rate settings, but hell why didn't I think of removing the rear roll bar earlier?! Argh!

You did not miss much. They were fearing rain and did not set up the parking lot, so we raced on the carpet track.
No plans to replace the Yoks at this time. However, if I was planning to the 414 would be high on the list of considered replacements though..
