So far at practice today for the nats which starts tomorrow, i have been trying different combinations of settings and gearing.
I can confidently say i am one of, if not the fastest 13.5 running.
I am able to hold and in some cases out accellerate other cars from corners and also have more top end.
what surprised me more is that i ended up at 52mm roll out and my motor comes of at 137deg/f - 58 deg/c after 6 mins.
will adjust to suit after the first heat.
Still have weak brakes though but am using drag brakes with good success.

They fiddled with my roll out calculator and my car was not 52mm but 43.3mm roll out compared to 48mm with a Speedpassion GT powered top driver.
went up to a 45.14 and was much better except for a few mistakes.
Managed to qualify in 6th A-mains
My first A-mains placing at national level.
Will run slightly bigger wheels in tomorrows 1st final and gauge from there what to do.

Try using the minimum timing hole on your Duo and then follow the setup advice in Section 8 of the RS/Hotwire summary document attached to this post: http://www.rctech.net/forum/5940355-post4315.html . Let us know how it works for you.

Software 198 vs 189
Just loaded the 198 software after a lot of messing about. But now loaded apart from a new screen what does it do for me, that the 189 didnt do.
Run the RS in a 1/12th car using nims lipos at long way off in the Uk for 1/12th racing.
Motors used redline 10.5 and Nosram 7.5.

For the guys waiting on V199. I have been running it for almost 2 weeks now. I'm sure Randy will give a good starting setup once pre-release testing is done but from what I have been running lately here is what I have been running on an medium sized asphalt track.(17.5 and 13.5)

Got some good testing today on fairly large asphalt US track, Touring rubber. I also ran the 199 with 17.5 motor.
Basic set up I ran was Middle hole 10* motor DUO

I asked about stock timing on a Novak 17.5 spec BL motor a couple of pages ago and received only one response of 25 degrees. It would be nice to have at least one more person confirm this. Anyway, I had my first race with my new RS Pro yesterday in Stock Rubber TC at a local outdoor track with about a 120 foot straight and 15 to 17 second lap times. Air temp was in the 90s and I didn't check but I'm sure the asphalt was into the 120s. Here is what I learned...
Practice - 4.69 FDR, Boost 30. Motor got to 140 after just 1 minute. Made me a believer that the Novak timing is more advanced than other motors. I'm even running a small fan.
1st Qualifier - Broke on the first lap. Nothing learned except to stay away from the pipes.
2d Qualifier - 4.69 FDR, Boost 10. Finished near the top but the motor faded bad toward the end of the race. Cars that I was beating easily at the beginning were all catching back up to me. Motor temp was near 180 when it came off the track.
Main - 4.84 FDR, Boost 10. My old TC3 was as fast as any other car on the track and stayed strong to the end. Motor temp got to 146. If not for one bad mistake, I would have finished at the top or close to it.
Thoughts... I really like the new speed control. It blows away my old GTB and it feels close to my stock spec SPX. I don't have a clue how to work the timing on the Novak motor or if it is even possible. If the 25 degree timing is accurate (which I believe it probably is), then you have to be careful with the amount of Boost used. Boost + Timing in my case should be 35, which is a little over the recommended 30 but with a conservative gear ratio, the motor stayed in a good temp range and had plenty of punch. I think I found my setup. I hope the turbo in 199 won't add much to the motor temp and I'm really looking forward to it.

Take the Novak motor and loosen all the screws to adjust the timing ring and you'll notice that there is very little movement for timing adjustment. The adjustment can be felt on the track though.
Tekin motors can be adjusted the same by loosening the endbell screws and it has a much wider timing ring movement compared to the novak. The motor also has timing line markings to give you and indication of degrees you're running the motor at.
The Duo is different from the other two previously mentioned motors. Due to it's design there is only 3 different timing adjustments which some call low, med, high or 0, 10, 20.
What I would like to do it spend a few race days running the three above mentioned motors at 0 timing to compared them equally and better help racers out with the settings used in the RS. To assume that everyone running the RS is using a Tekin motor isn't being realistic. Even though the Novak motor doesn't have set timing markings I do know how to find the 0 timing spot on this motor. Going to more motor timing will possibly help on the larger tracks but without knowing some sort of number to add to the boost number will have us shooting in the dark. The Duo can go to the middle hole (10) and the Tekin can copy it by going to the 10 spot on the can but the Novak 10 is where on the can?????? I can tell you that you will be able to drop your gearing a little using the 199 and that should help the motor temps some. It seems that most gear up to help with top end speed and with that comes the heat. With the new turbo feature you can gear down and have nice infield power and then the turbo carries you on the straight. The SPX is a good speedo but what the guys at Tekin have done is allowed the average club racer to fine tune the speedo to "personally" fit their driving style. The trigger happy racer along with the smooth racer will both benefit from the setting adjustments and the improved straightaway speed.
If you haven't done so already you can remove the center timing ring on your motor to help it run a little cooler.

I have don some laps on a big track. The Turbo kicked in a bit late but that was because I was geared to heavy.
But the speed was super.
