So, a year or so down the line, what's the consensus on parts needed to make an M-05 work right?

I'm looking at getting one for the winter, still quite undecided about which route to take. Either buy a normal M-05 locally, or go crazy with an imported M-05 Pro and a bunch of hop-ups to make the shipping cost and taxes worthwile!

I won't need the kit motor or ESC so the Pro looks tempting, but what to add to the order? Alloy steering? Alloy uprights? UJ driveshafts? TRF shocks? :confused:

I bought the Alloy steering from 3Racing , 3Racing ball diff with a TRF screw,nut and thrust washer add the motor mount , i gives a better mounting for the motor and you can add the cooling bar from the DF03 for extra cooling , i took the UJ's from my M03 and added the TRF short dampers

The car drives really well and looks cool :cool::cool:

That pretty much covers it. I'm not convinced a ball diff is required on this car. Extra shims in the gear diff work pretty well. Also, the CVA Super Mini shocks work well for a fraction of the cost of the TRF shocks. I have alloy uprights but I'm not sure they do much for the performance.

agree about the super mini shocks - outstanding performance for fraction of the price, however, you just don't get the 'slick' quick-adjust for ride height oh well ;)

i'd recommend from aluminum knuckles - i had them on my M03 and made a point of getting them on my M05, because i bent 2 on the M03 so I didnt want to take a chance

The Ta03 ball diff works great in these cars. Keeps the traction down. Gear diffs are ok but, they're is significant difference between the two. That, shocks and tires are your tuning options. Everything else just looks good.

Careful with the 3R diff they have a tendency of going south

If you know how to properly build and tune diffs they all work the same. Driving style is a different story. I just prefer OEM parts.

P-lo knows how to build his diff and it has in fact been a nightmare. Possibly an unlucky production run with that diff.

I was not referring to anyone specific on building diffs.

Just switched over to a M05.... Got the regular kit, added shocks, bearings, shims to the steering rack, the motor mount (for cooling), and the front universals (get rid of some of the slop). Threw on a set of sweep tires and went racing. The car ran great out of the box.

The only other thing I really want to get is front knuckles (tamiya, all others bend). May get a steering rack for the bling factor.

For those who run Sweep tires. What size are they 55 or 60 and which shure is the best for asphalt? 33's? Also which inserts do you recommend? Thanks. I'm asking because I'm limited to 55's with the Berlina body:mad:
