Then i tested with a thrustbearing from TA05MS, and it was no more problem with thrustbearing. Now the diff carrier melted. So, my advise is not to get any gear parts from 3racing. But in my eager to get a non TA03 diff to test i have gone and ordered the 3racing one. :rolleyes: :weird: :lol: Will post back as soon as i know how it's like.... i put grease on the gears in my mini the first time i built it back in '99 - and the couple of rebuilds since then, i've run the gears dry :) |
Same here,run the gears dry and use aw grease for the bevel gear(diff) to get some friction in the diff

I use Nulon silicone lubricant on my gears and have never had a problem. Spray on and let dry. Job done. I also use this to lubricate the two MO5 chassis halves as per instructions.

What's a good affordable":lol:" esc to put into my mini? I plan on running a 2 cell with the stock 540 motor.

Thanks for the replies. I have a Tekin FX-R but I wanted to try something different in the under 100 range. Also what's the best torque range for servo's? Which brand? Sorry for all the questions but I like to know what other people are using.

Thanks in advance. I run Ride tyres on the front (soft 3020, medium, 3030 depends on grip level) with hard inserts, I run Pit Shimizu treaded D25 or Ride 3020 with soft 5mm insert on the rear. I have run Spice & Cross as well, but find the Ride tyres to be consistent (they are belted and wear well) Another great tyre is the treaded HPI X-Pattern run all round. A little hard to find stock though. As far as rims go, I prefer the HPI Mini Dish Wheels (#3640) they are as tough as nails and don't break/chip/shatter edges when you try and rearrange the track walls. Others prefer the Swift rims, they are tough as well. Got a set on the way to chuck in the m04 to give it some more legs, will know then how different they look from a teching perspective.

I don't know about the durability of the 3Racing gears, but here's what I do know. They're designed for more top speed, so racing on a relatively short track would probably not be advantageous. What I heard last week regarding teching is that if someone is running a bigger pinion than allowed, then they're probably using those gears.

With the 3Racing speed gear set, you only need to change the spur gear. The secondary gear they have is the same as the Tamiya item. The problem is that a 20 tooth pinion can be fitted to the motor, but placed in the 16 pinion hole on the chassis. The gears are a different white colour to the Tamiya item. So Teching should be easy. Personally for us here in Aust, I think you will know if someone is using them, as they will be faster than normal, especially with using the Hobbywing systems. Yes I have a set, not fitted to my car, but will build a car for the TITC in Bangkok next year, which has open gearing, using Tamiya sport tuned motors. My major worry is that the motor will not last due to the heat from gears and the ambient temperature in Bangkok. These will be hand out motors. Have a great day. Calvin. |
I ran the RP Take Off tires tonight (RP-30), using sweep inserts. Running on grippy carpet. These things are gumballs! If you can find some, give them a shot.
