well.. I've gone and done it now.
Just purchased a M03-R, with a Swift bodyshell..... what have I got myself into :p Bit different to my other cars (fairly serious racers) but wanted something that I can have a laugh with, and look good. Have to say cheers to the guys at rc-mini, some very useful info on the site. Just a shame I can't seem to find any X-patterns anywhere.... Still looking forward to building the little pocket rocket now. One other random Q, Anyone know what the motor limit of the Tamiya ESC is? Cheers Ed |
I've got lots of x-patterns Ed....;) But they not be for sale.
Sadly they aren't being made any more, which is a damn pity. My personal current favourites are Rides but they aren't all that easy to get hold of either. |

All I can say in relation to diffs, is to post what Tim put on the Singapore Mini thread in answer to this same question.
I use AW grease on the balls, diff plates & thrust bearing, then put loctite threadlock on the step screw and tighten it until it stops (until cannot tighten anymore). I install the diff so that the nylon gear part of the diff is in the right hand side of the chassis. So far my diff has never come loose in 8 years Same for me... We have a sneaking suspicion (unproven as yet) that if you put the diff in the 'wrong way around' (i.e. with the gear on the l/hand side) then that tends to promote loosening. I cant recall any of us at rc-mini having had a diff come loose for at least 5-6 years, maybe longer. |
1) Clean threads on both diff bolt and housing
2) Apply Shoo-Goo or Rubber (contact) Cement 3) Install diff bolt and tighten. No more loosey. |
Ive actually had good luck with blue locktight. Just make sure the threads are clean and don't use too much and everything works out fine. I use aerocar grease on the diff parts with good results but most of the guys around here stick with the Tamiya antiwear grease. I had issues with the 03 diff at first but after I got a feel for the setting and started to use the locktight things have been just fine.

q for the carpet runners.. how much droop do you typically run front and rear? i think mine is limited too much in the back, but i wanted to get a few more ideas before taking it apart again...
