Tamiya mini cooper
A little curious to know Eric how it holds up under race conditions. I have to show your pix to my Dad so we can copy your design and try it on our minis!
Yep kind of wondering if the fan would vibrate from the driving? Anyway looks good.
The whole thing is really solid. I've only driven it in my driveway and it appears to hold quite well. I have my first race with it not this weekend, but the following. So i'll let you know what the motor temps are w/ it this way and how it holds up. I'll have a good sense after the first race heat, -if its no help, then i'll go back to the previous set up before the 2nd heat (fan blowing down from up top) ...which I ran all last year.
My moto temps w/ no fan were about 165, my lap times were several tenths of a second slower in the last laps. W/ the fan mounted directly above my motor temps were around 155, still a little slowing in last laps, but not quite as bad. So I am hoping having the fan directed at the motor will get my temps down even more ...145??? And give consistent lap speeds for the entire 6mins. of run time.
Thanks for that. My current setup is slightly higher at the rear, but I'm hoping that will be offset by much softer spring rate and a grippier tyre. Racing on Friday night for the first time at my local club so will report back.
I've added a pic side on in my album

Kind of like a Cry02 intercooler for real cars.
Good to hear your mount is solid. On my TBLE02 ESC where it has no factory option for a fan, I use 2 thin plastic pieces about 10mm in width (less than a mm thick) mounted on the sides of the ESC to place a fan over the ESC heat sink. I use a very soft VHB mounting tape to allow vibration to be damped within the mounts. It helps dampen the cheepo fan's imbalance too as one time without this setup, the fan was buzzing the entire chassis..

Yeah, I found this way works really well for me.
I believe that there are probably many combinations to get an M-car to handle correctly ...this one works really well for me. LIke mentioned I can whip it around turns w/o so much as minimal slide at worst. 99.9% of the time it takes turns wonderfully.

Oh yeah, I wasn't saying the setup was bad, I am sure different driving conditions, etc will dictate how the car should be set up.

Yeah, that is what makes the M05xx so fun, there are literally probably dozens if not hundreds of setups that work. Most guys run S-grips all the way around, I could never get that to work for me ...I run slicks + s-grips ...found it works great (for me).
Here's an example on my M-Rage. This is the 105BK, but you get the idea.
eR1c - Yep, completely agree that there are many different set ups for these cars.
Hey Antlockyer - how do you like those Sweeps? I bought the med and soft but neither was a good match for my track surface. I love the shape of those wheels though.
I currently only run Pit Shimizu, the classic 55mm.
I like how they are actually radial tires inside the rubber.
