These Servos are still too heavy at 48gram.... Blue bird Servos weigh 32grams, and are analog.... It saves the cost of a new radio, Rx, etc.... That's almost $600 savings right there.... I think mini racing has become too expensive.... There are $1100 minis racing tcs... That's absurd.....
M03: $149.99...m05:$200 fm radio: $100... 2.4ghz:$650. Brushed: free... Brushless:$240. Tires:$50 more or less... 4x grams is plenty light for me. |
The savox 1250 I just put in is a mini servo not micro, and is just something I want to try since a few people on here said mini servos worked for them, originally I was using a savox 1251 and had no problems, also the servo horn is the same as the standard servos so I didn't have to change any thing there.
If this works I'll shave 30 grams, I'm trying to get to 1300. |

The m03 RTR comes with an Am radio... To run it on the cheap, the FM radio + analog servo is the cheapest upgrade vs a 2.4ghz radio+ (digital or analog) servo.... The mini class should have stayed low cost....

I do agree that you don't need to spend a whole lot to make your m-chassis fun to drive. But AM/FM radio, unless using PCM will glitch which is no fun. Radio is one thing I never go cheap on. Get the best you can afford with the proper receiver to match. :) Even back in the FM days I was using a JR R1 Pro with ZPCM receivers. Still not 100% reliable. |
My m03 weighed 1086grams with heavy electronics and two huge capacitors... I could still lose another 30grams... It's all about thinking light... I added 218grams to my m03 to make 1300grams...
I also never had a glitch with my futaba 3pm FM radio..... |

Your tamiya body is probably around 90grams, and your battery around 215grams. I run a blitz c30 body(0.5mm) 47grams, and a 2700mah TP lipo(168grams)... That's 90grams less on top of the 16grams servo weight difference... Add another 30grams for small electronics and no capacitors, and you could lose 146grams, and your car will weigh 1078grams.... No way to race tcs with such cheap upgrades...lol...

I only run the Tamiya Rover Mini bodies so I guess I will never be super light. However, I should measure it with the lighter Lipo batteries, use tape to strap my battery instead of the battery tie down plastic and clips (M05 bits), and maybe do the screw swap to aluminum as well. I did add 14g of weight on the front of my M03. It's a trick I've done since a long time ago, placing lead in the front bumper. I read Ivan does it too. This stabilizes the rear of the car while giving more bite up front. |
Now I also put weight(14g)under my front bumper to make the 1300gram limit, but now my car is very bottom heavy, which is very good in corners...
I based my prices on top notch equipment prices... Sure , you can get everything cheaper with hobbywing, etc, but I have seen some super expensive minis out there competing, and they were on another level... I just don't try to catch them, and concentrate on having fun... The TP pack does require some dremeling to fit though... |

I run kit ESC and only silver cans and just enjoy driving my cars. :p |
I think some of these expensive mini drivers got their stuff through sponsorship deals etc... They are hard to match without sponsorship, and it's not a fair competition at all without handout equipment....I always run for fun... I know I have no chance under these conditions, and my mini is really a second car to double up the fun and kill time...

I've always liked Futaba servos, ...I have the S9551 low profile servo in my Mini and am very happy with it.
After trying practically everything, it has been (9551) for a while now the only servo I use in everything 10th scale. Never had one glitch or fail. Decent speed, light weight, low profile, durable, reliable, decent torque, reasonable price. |
