Well it looks like I didn't succeed in making it understandable for you, so let me go through how you might do this. Since a Speed Passion is one of the motors on your list, let's do that one.

First buy the right motor. SP has the V3 1 cell motor which has the small or high rpm rotor, so you won't have to buy an extra rotor. Second, you have to figure out how much you can safely advance the timing. For this particular motor you will have to buy an optional sensor unit. Whether you use a +20, 30, or 40 unit is trial and error. The motor has 10 degrees of adjustment on the end bell so with a +40 sensor unit, you can get a max of 50 degrees of timing, which I don't suggest. Also, you have to take the motor out to adjust the timing.

You sort of have to go through an analysis on each motor, cause each seems to have strong and weak points. The Thunder Power has a sensor wire that plugs in differently from the other motors and for me is a little harder to work on. The Novak goes nowhere unless you advance past the label. The Trinity has more tuning rotors than I have fingers or $$$$ to buy them.

Of the motors on your list, I'd buy either the Speed Passion or the Killshot. Just do your research, cause I can't tell you which is better for your track.

Is the Silver Can for TCS 53689 ?

That was the TCS motor in previous years. However, for 2014, the motor is the 21.5 B/L motor.

I just ran across a "High Speed Gear Set" for the M cars. Think it's been around for a while but I had never seen one.

I know it would not be TCS legal but has anyone ever tried one?

It appears to change the tranny ratio so you get a lower FDR with the stock 37/20 Spur and pinion.

It's only been a few years since I bought one locally, but it was $14.99. Even at that, it was on the very edge of being reasonable. It's a 50+ year old design, manufactured in the millions each year, that wholesales for under a buck.

They're not very good and will wear quickly, especially with a BL motor. I believe this has something to do with them not being properly round and because they're made of soft cheese.

We use them locally (those Ride ones are identical to the 3Racing ones). The material is very poor so they don't last if you are prone to crashing. The counter gear is particularly bad so use the standard Tamiya one instead.

Locally we race with the fast gears and HPI Saturn 20 motors. The cars are quite quick. This is from last weekend, my car starts 3rd on the grid running 33/20 gearing, others are running higher ratios so have a bit more top end than me - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmQi8nPtqvk

Never mind I see the spur gears are in the kit. Thought they were all internal gears.
