Right, the motor has to be left as it came out of the package (which is the "N" or 30 degree mark on the Ballistics)

This is for our weekly Wednesday night racing

Here are a few data points I got from my Novak Ballistic set at various amounts of timing advance, as set by a degree wheel.

The KV rating called out for silver can motors per TCS rules is about 2600. Achieving the same KV rating on my Ballistic requires about 50 degrees of timing advance.

Now I know why I need to turn down the throttle EPA on my brushed Mini to keep from running over the guys with 21.5 brushless motors! If left at the "N" mark, the Ballistic has only 73% of the KV of the brushed motor.

My testing methods are pretty crude in comparison to yours. We just throw 2 cars down on the track and see which one goes faster. In every instance, the 21.5 was quicker down the straight than a TCS legal Silvercan. Lap times are also quicker with the 21.5. The 21.5s were set at 50 degrees of timing.

This looks about right in your KV chart also. Whenever we get a B/L motor it's cranked to the stop. If the guys you're racing with are at 30 degrees, it's no wonder you think the 21.5 is slow.

On a return from racing indoor last night and I have to say I liked my -1 degree front upper arms on my M05. The new s9551 servo felt better than my old 3010 servo, it was just faster and smoother. That being said all I adjusted was the total servo travel. It's quite sensitive now making the car twitchy. To tame this, is the only available adjustment the exponential setting on the TX?

Sanwa MT4 allows me to adjust the transmit and return speed of the servo to slow it down. Different from expo.

So, Mini finally goes brushless. Time to get the M03 off the shelf and build the M05 sitting here still in the box.

There are a few of those being run in mini here. Good batteries. Anyone know if Hobbyking has gotten over the international lipo shipping problems yet?

Statement about the battery says "looks like they'll fit Minis" so anyone know if they do. Hard to tell by the photo.

They do fit fine in the M05! The only thing is you have to trim the opening in the removable battery holder part a bit so that the grommet of the battery can go through.

I've been using these packs for a little over a year now. I didn't trim my M05 battery cups (the grommet it a bit squished). I even have a few weights added to the underside of the pack, no problem. It's a REAL tight fit in my M01, though, but that car is relegated to shelf duty now.

I can vouch for this. Swapped a 21.5 Hacker from my TC with about 40 degrees motor timing into my LWB M03 Mini and was getting pulled by a box stock M05 on a long straightaway. I had been running Silver Can in a TCS type format at my Summer home but had an extra Tekin ESC I used instead of the original Tamiya ESC. Decided I might as well put a BL in for racing in a mixed Mini class at my Winter home in AZ. By mixed I mean if it's small it's in the class so that includes 4WD Vaterras. The most recent race even had Spec Touring cars to help make up the class.

I got so frustrated I put a 17.5 in with boost and turbo. Got the speed but the Vaterra clobbered me and broke a rear upright.

Interestingly when I ran the 17.5 the first time I only had motor timing and really didn't see much speed difference between it and the 21.5. Different motor manufactures as well and I don't know how their KVs compare.

Think the Hacker is the better motor and since I now know the 21.5 is legal for TCS ,after coming back to this thread following a few months absence, I'm going back to the 21.5 and I'll work to get more speed out of it.

Has anyone tried kit tyres on the front of an M05 on carpet? I've heard some clubs are using kit tyres with additive on the front and M grips on the rear, this is to help with the twitchy feeling of the M05 on high grip carpet.

Anyone tried this?

Ive tried kit tires in front and s-grip at the rear... both with the hard inserts... worked fine although i think i could have used a little bit more steering for the low speed tight s-curves...
