M05 Ballrace Steering
 

I have an M05 fitted with Tamiya 54191 ballraced steering does anyone know what size the ball races for the steering pivots are its not listed on the manual.

1200g mini?
 

Since min. weight has been reduced to 1200g, has anybody tried to run that light? I know that the common thought is that minis need weight to work, the whole NiMH to Lipo weight difference thing etc. But can a mini this light be tuned to work? This would be for carpet.

Most guys are running weight in their car. The advantage is that you can place the weight where it's needed, rather than where it might have otherwise been molded in. A lot of people running M-05s (for example) are stuffing the front bumper with lead weights or gluing them to the outside o the bumper.

It helps get the power down and assists the car in rotating through the turns.

No not faster than stock down here, bout 3 secs off the pace at our local track,

No burnt gears had the same set in for nearly 18 months. Tires are no different than anything else, did a whole year on a set of fronts racing 2 - 3 times a month.

Hi Joe, we recently started running an Orca Q Spark 2200kv combo in our race series in western Canada. I asked that the motors be built to spec at around 2200kv and they're very close to a (real) silver can, but with more torque. They're built the same as a Hobbywing 13T in that they are a 380 sized rotor in a 540 size can. Very efficient and reliable design. The 13t motors the guys run in Australia are fantastic and reliable, too, but they are closer to a 20t-23t in terms of speed.

Think of it this way: If you're running mostly indoors on carpet on a track where the straight is under 100ft, then 2200kv is about right. If you're running outdoors or on a longer track, 3300kv might be the way to go.

I believe the Orca systems are becoming available to the wider public market towards the end of November and a few shops have them in stock already. The Hobbywings are available everywhere. They're both great systems.

I wonder if they'll be selling the IFS conversion bits for the Chariot. I'm very happy my little beast is no longer a true orphan.

you want 850 bearings, if looking for tamiya sized/named bearings

basically, you want a 5x8mm non-flanged bearing :)

Jim, after all that info I hate to admit that I won't be racing;
just bashing around in my basement and a bit outdoors.
(my basement section is about the size of the track at my LHS)
I'm not looking for crazy speed; I'm more concerned with damage to the drivetrain.
