Hey Myron, thank you. I also did short video interviews with each VTA driver at the Carpet Nats. As soon as those videos are done uploading to YouTube I will post them in this thread. I collected info on all the VTA cars too, i.e. chassis, speedo, motor, radio, battery, etc. I will get a list put together and post it on this thread when it's ready.

By the way, the VTA A-Main video should be ready to watch in a few minutes.
Here's the link for VTA A-Main race: http://youtu.be/3oTSEcxM8ZY

Congratulations to Tony Phalen for winning TQ and Champion in VTA at the 2012 ROAR Carpet Nationals this last weekend.

Tony Phalen was driving a Hot Bodies TCX with a Novak Edge ESC and Novak Ballistic 25.5 motor. He had a 1969 Camaro Z28 body which also won 2nd place in the Concourse. Tony also won Champion in the F1 class at the Nationals.

Keep your eyes open for the article that Tony is writing about VTA for RC Driver Magazine. Also I wish Tony the best of luck in getting a VTA Race Club started at his local track in Southern California.

my take on the roar nats and USVTA. top three qualifers ran USVTA

tony edge ballistic
mike not sure but I think it was both novak jonesy what were you running?
Melvin Havok SS yes SS
I qualified 4th and had a ballistic and a tekin which I had in my 17.5 boosted car and just set it to blinky.

did the tekin make me faster... NO didn't matter

Melvin tried a LRP stock spec and went slower then his Havok

now I did get the "EA fast lap of the event" award for VTA with a 12.1

was running 35 timing with 3.36 FDR and you know what really got me the 12.1 lap

triple dope PARAGON. 30 minutes 15 minutes and just before I went to tech.
double dope was only good for 12.3 that's all I changed between the last qual and the main.
I cleaned the axle bearings after the 1st round. THAT was the only maintance on the car in the last month

the tires I glued up just last tuesday night were money so having worn tires doesn't matter

why did roar allow the duo3 motor? they can't play favorites to manufactors. didn't matter

Now do I think that Rob needs to change the rules. NO

the rules still makes USVTA the easiest class to get into with help from novak combo lines.
and it keeps someone from pushing the rules or the race track from having to tech EVERYTHING.
and as a track owner it make my life easy.
as a racer if I ran the class more then once a year I would get a USVTA speed control.

and Tony didn't paint his own body he had it painted. sort of takes the fun out of winning concourse.

Hey Myron, one other thing that we all learned from this race is that the Top 3 finishers were all running 100% U.S. VTA legal cars. The 4th place finisher had a Tekin RS Pro in his car. That just goes to show that winning in VTA is all about driver skill. We always have guys at our track ask "why can't I use my Tekin or Castle Mamba Pro speed control?" Simple answer is because it's not in the USVTA rules. I believe that ROAR is obligated to allow a wider selection of speedos because they can't show bias towards one (or 3) manufacturer of ESC's. Let the race results show that the Top 3 VTA champions at the ROAR Carpet Nationals all used a Novak Edge ESC (how's that for a plug NovakTwo?).
