We've done a TA enduro a couple times.. not super long ones yet but 1.2 hours. Three man teams with one car and a mandatory tire change. We've been doing mini and TA enduros every couple months just as a change of pace. Its a good time.

I don't know if I missed it in the previous 150 pages, but why were 240Z's not allowed? I always thought they ran in SCCA races of the era. I'm a Nissan freak and love Z's and have a hard time not cutting/painting Nissan bodies!

The car was never entered in a Trans Am race between 64 and 73.

Oh, I didn't realize the years were so restricted. Anything older than 1980 is vintage/classic to me!

Also, is the VTA class also restricted by class in SCCA? The Z's were first raced in 1970, but in the C-class.

Regarding the Z... you could also argue that VTA is limited to American Muscle, or that SCCA Trans-Am featured two class in that time frame; over/under 2 liter.

On that train of thought, has anyone tried or thought of trying to race a 1/10th scale under 2 liter class along side the big American muscle? If so, how would one go about limiting the speed of the U-2 class? 380 motors?

Not trying to stir the pot are start of flame-fest... just throwing some ideas out there since HPI has their new Cup Racer...

Wouldn't the Z fall in the above 2 liters class?

Default Small bore Trans Am cars.

The Datsun 240Z to 280Z were considered production sports cars by SCCA as they did not have any rear seat from the factory and ran in C Production based on weight and displacement. However the same can be said for the Shelby Mustang's, they were classed in B Production with the small block Corvettes. Only the plain Jane notchback mustangs were legal in Trans Am until 1969 (Also known as A Sedan). The early Porsche 911, Afla GTA and Datsun 510 all ran in B Sedan since they were small bore GT's (less than 2.5 liters?) before that class type was created by SCCA (GT1, 2, 3, 4 & 5). I remember that the old Detroit muscled up Pony cars were called the trucks of SCCA due to their size, large lumps and live rear axles.

That is some very good information! Now, does all that mean more bodies should be allowed, or should they be completely limited to A-sedan class?

Sunday at Palm Bay Harley-Davidson, starting at 10 a.m. (I think, but I'm always late). Power is available, just bring an extension cord. Plenty of space, smooth concrete, definitely a great venue!

Last post I saw from Doug on the Issue is that if a new body were made that was exactly the class that VTA replicates, not GTU, not another time period of Trans Am, and not another SCCA class, Then it would be strongly considered and possibly allowed by the official USVTA rules. That pretty much means a notchback Mustang, 69,70 Mustang, 70,71 Camaro, Javelin, 70 Cuda, Maybe a Falcon. I think I missed one or two, but you get the idea.

That doesnt stop you from getting a bunch of HPI cup racers with 240z shells and racing them. Just dont say that its the official USVTA. I for one would love to have one of the cup racers or for that matter, a standard 190mm TC with one of the ABC 240z shells.

Believe me, none of that is news to Doug, the organizer of the class. He has his reasons for allowing the current bodies. It's all here in the thread.
