Don't get me wrong, I know this car isn't for foams, and intend to get it for rubber racing. I'm just curious, mostly. I don't plan on doing much foam, but I'll definitely want a car around if I want or need to go that route for some reason. I'll probably keep my current car for that, which is more than capable, but it would be nice not to have to split time/parts between two manufacturers.
I guess the two limiting factors for the 415 were the lack of a front diff. The offical tamiya one has only been avaliable for about a year... only other option previous to that was to run an old yokomo one.
Also, the front hubs restricted the use of tyres wider than 24mm, not so good for 28mm foams. The option to rectify it was running HPI front hubs.
Both mods can be found here.

Another reason more recently would be the thicker chassis opition. The 4mm chassis could only use the old steering system, limiting it to some extent to just the 415, MS, or MSX.

HiH

Is it known whether the front hubs on the 416 will impose the same limitation?

Default January 16, 2008

Hey Guys,

I don't think anyone has mentioned the release date yet. If so, my bad. My distributor has indicated a January 16, 2008 arrival. Which, means we will receive them approximately Jan. 17 or 18.

We're still taking pre-orders, but running out fast.

Happy Holidays,
Jeff

I am indeed, mainly as I keep pestering them with emails about the car (front drive, duct, release date etc) I've pre-ordered the car with the blue screw kit, the duct, and a S9550 servo... usually get a reply back within a 24hrs.
If you don't mind Ed, can you keep us all informed on everything you hear from RC Champ?

Champ is saying 12/20. Is it normal for Japan to get kits before the US? I'm assuming that's the case, but being a Tamiya newb, I've gotta ask.

Great news indeed. What a pity all club racing in my area will be over... But the earlier the better!

Found some nice close-ups from the Hobby Show:

Looks like the steering components will be well clear of the belt.
