Went to the IIC with what I thought would be the final setup for the races at the end of the program.

1) Started with what I thought was 1-1/2 degrees of rear toe. Car was weird for first two practice days until I shimmed the rear (shouldn't require any shims) to get 2 degrees toe at the back. Rob suggested that I swap rear uprights to see what would happen with the toe. That showed me that I had come to the track with a bent left rear upright. Thanks Rob.

2) Was running standard front steering blocks with no spacers at the couplers; so, the front was narrow at about 188 mm. Added .12 (.08 + .04)spacers to all four locations to achieve a massive improvement in handling. That proved to be the ticket for setup changes made during the week. BIG difference! Thanks James.

3) The Specialized lipo tray with SMC 5000 pack was the ticket...Thanks Jeff Cuffs for talking me into giving it a second try.

4) As indicated above, the rest of my initial setup was good through qualifying and racing in Amateur and 13.5 Rubber. Will eventually post it as a carpet setup for "mortals".

5) Never did try my super short wheelbase car.

hey guys i just got a kydex bumper and kydex foam bumper for my PHI. I have installed it, but it seems it leaves the carbon chassis a bit open at the front for chipping etc... I was wondering if i may have put it on incorrectly... I was wondering if someone could post a couple of pics (top and bottom views) for me to compare to see if i've done it right.

thanks guys, D'oh stupid of me... looks great now with the original in place as well... i have some new diffs on the way from Jeff, any tips on putting those ones together so i don't make another mistake???

Definitely sand the diff rings with 600 grit sandpaper (or finer). Everytime you get grooves in those diff rings, sand them again.

And use their ceramic diff balls (18 of them) if you can justify the expense.

Note: The flanged bearing (thrust) drops into the same space where you insert the beveled washers and locknut. Not from the side where the diff ring is. The beveled washers should be placed like this ( ) to each other with the locknut on top.

Anyone want three of the old Phi diffs with ceramic balls and bearings???

I have been using the Futaba 9550/9551 low profile servos on my Phi's. Unfortunately, they leave the car too light in the left front corner; so, I have to run 40-45 grams of weight in front of it to balance out the chassis.

After having been at the IIC last week, the JR below appears to be a very popular steering servo.

Is a new pulley required for the phi 08 differential??

The old pulley works with the new diff. You just use all the holes now.

'All the holes' because you use 18 balls in the new diff. The old diff used 3/32" balls; but, the new one uses 2mm. Don't mix them.

I'd assume you'd build the diff with the balls that came with it. But doesn't hurt to say.
