For the more experienced racer I like to set the mesh different for stock/19turn and mod. For mod racing use the above instructions. Because of the raw power you do not want to take a chance of stripping teeth off the spur.
For stock/19 turn racing I like to set the mesh a tick on the free side. This will actually help with efficiency and "free up" the driveline.
As a side note the above is only recomended for foam tire racing. If you are venturing outdoors set the mesh a tick on the free side to allow dirt and debri to collect and not lock up your gears. I know this sounds backwards but trust me, it will save your equiptment. If a gear mesh is too tight or a rock has collected your motor, speedo, and battery will heat up and may cause other problems.
Basically setting a gear mesh is a "feel" thing. If you are not sure always ask one of the seasoned veterans that race at your track.
