Mike Haynes, I heard you ran the new Thunderpower 5000 Lipo. How did you get it to fit?
#8614
The pack will fit the car just fine with the plastic tray. If you want to use the Steel tray, you'll have to do 2 things...
#1. Grind a little out of the tray itself (widen the pocket) by grinding the inside edges of the tray. Newer generation trays being shipped by Losi may not need this.
#2. Grind a little of the rear bulkheads underneath the layshaft. You probably only need to grind .5mm or so just to get the pack to sit up into the car better.
Other than that, you should be fine.

Thanks Schreff. I just tried to fit a friends in and it seemed the main issue was the pulleys. When I slide it in, it wedges between them so they don't spin. I don't know of any mods for the pulley but I would prefer not to cut on my Lipo ( like I have before ).

LiPO fitting question
OK,
I bought a couple of SMC 5000's and I'm grinding away on:
1. LiPO tray.
2. After LiPO tray I'll see how much I need to remove from Bulkhead under layshaft, and remove it.
3. Remove a little less than 1mm from belt pulley on Spur gear side.
Question.... As I test fit the battery, I notice the power leads hit the top deck and won't work as shipped..
I either need to grind on the top deck or open up each battery and try to relocate the leads in the battery.. The lead that is in the corner should be fine, but there is one to the inside of it that maybe I can relocate just behind the other???? Or maybe in the other corner (like on Orion)???
What did you guys do with the power leads?

For the guys running the Orion 5000
1 Does this battery fit into the steel battery tray without mods.
2 I am looking for a battery that can make a 10 min main with a 4.5 or 5.5 BL motor and stay within the 80% rule for LiPo. Can the 5000 do this.
Thanks in advance

Questions about this being the newest Kit?
I have read on the Losi site that this chassis has been around since 2006. My questions are:
1. When was the Type R released? Was the original car released in 2006?
2. Are they looking to put out new chassis in 2009? I have seen prices reduced as if a new chassis might be coming.
3. What is the best place for getting parts?

You can get parts from horizon directly, losipartshouse, or from your LHS.
I will crap bricks if losi releases another TC, so i doubt it, you never know though.

Mike, How are you running the power leads on the SMC5000 28c?.. They come up in the front left and are obstructed by the top deck. How are you running these? Opening up LiPO case (not easy) and moving the wires?, grinding on top deck? Not sure what you did....
Please let me know.

I know Mike was running the "older red case" SMC 5000 with the wires coming out the right side. I've run them as well. I also tried fitting the newer case and while it is a tight fit, you can get it to work without modifying the top deck. It's just an odd/tight fit.
I don't worry about that anymore though as I'm running the TP5000 40C.
