I think Tamiya did a great job on the new High End kit as well as the EVO and the tub chassis TA08R ( Which is somewhat based off of this ). Will the kit be expensive, yes it will, will it be hard to find in two years, pretty sure it will be twice as much. ( These kits are like old JDM cars, they just increase in value.
Tamiya MAIN object is plastic model kits, that is the bread and butter. The fact a company can release a kit like this, still have plastic model kits, educational kits, TRF cars, TCS racing, mini 4WD ( cars and races ) is pretty extraordinary. Hell traxxas can't even give you one of these that is decent.

1. There is no entry fee - You can race as many classes you can handle.
2. First place gets an actual kit, 2nd and 3rd get bodies or other tamiya goodies
3. Concours winners get a free body
4. Raffles - There are kits to be won along with all sort of other Tamiya items.
I then asked him.. what other brand offers this?
Needless to say, his eyes opened wide

Couple of weeks ago, a fellow track mate was asking me about TCS. He couldn't comprehend why it was limited to Tamiya kits. His initial response was what a bunch of haters. Then I explained to him

Already have mine preordered, will upgrade from my TRF420X which run among BD11/12 MTC2R X4 just fine. Will see what 421 can do vs my current car.

Really looking forward to this kit, going to be my first new car since my TA07MS
Do wish they'd opted for direct wheel hexes like some other brands but Axon made them for the 420 so maybe they will for the 421.
Other than that I actually quite like the use of plastic arms. Mostly an indoor racer and given previous Tamiya procing it shouldn't be too expensive to keep a good stock of suspension spares on hand

Tamiya USA List Price:
TRF420X - $1414
TRF421 - $1045
Tower Hobbies Price:
TRF420X - $989.80
TRF421 - Projected $731.50 (70% of list price rule)
Was about spot on with the TA08R cost prediction following the same 70%. List price change from the TRF420X is probably a combo of trying to be more competitive on cost and the drastically weak yen against the US dollar in the last few years. I bet overseas purchases, it will probably be $550-600 shipped. Too bad Tower no longer does member coupons.
edit: Raman pointed out also no aluminum chassis too which contribute to a lower cost.

I think at this lower price point it will open up some market. Hopefully they will offer a aluminum chassis or something in the future as a Hop-up item.
