So which is better for this car. A 64 pitch or a 48 pitch?

When I put either of those spurs in there is not enough adjustment room in the motor mount too use the correct pinion(19t/20t) to get that FDR. Am I missing something , not doing something right. Could someone please help I`ve got my first race starting tommorow and I just need too know what spur/pinion is best too start of with for the 17.5 on a medium size track or what I`m doing wrong? Thanks too all this is a great thread keep up the good work all!!

64 pitch if you are racing on clean race track or permanent track and carpet track.
48 pitch for club racing, drifting and bashing around.

48p is good as its a little more foregiving then 64p. 48p is good on permanent tracks that are outdoor and get alot of dirt and dust on the track, I've picked up enough black gunge in my spurs/pinions/pully from the nitros.

So there is no performance advantage from one to the other?

if the gears are in good condition and meshed properly, the difference will be so small that you will not be able to notice. Although I beleive 64p will if anything be more efficient and allows finer adjustments.

I run 48p in modified all the time and have used it in 13.5 with good results.

For most applications, 48p is fine, however, 64p allows for more exact gear ratios. 64p gears are really necessary for pan cars when back in the day people were using nimhs, brushed motors, and had to really achieve exact gear ratios to make a 4-5 minute race, taking into account battery power, motor, and tire diameter of their foam tires. Foam tires change diameter practically after every run, so back in the day, exact gear ratios really mattered because nimh batteries didn't last as long or provide as much power as lipos.

The only advantage to 64p over 48p is being able to achieve a more exact gear ratio.

I remember those times back then when using the 2000 cells in offroad, and they didn't last long. I couldn't imagine using them in a Tc now. This is good info here. These reason why I was asking this was because some were saying they use a 64 pitch. Also I think Ae is the only one that is using a 48 pitch. But it nice to know this stuff.

the downside to 64p gears are u have a greater chance of getting debris stuck in the mesh

I can remember using 1200's in 12th scale for 8 minutes! Anyone remember the phase "don't pull it all the way"

And having to pay CLOSE attention to how often you tapped the boards...more than twice or so (depending if you had to start from a dead stop) and you may as well pull it in 'cause you weren't going to make it.

I've still got a couple Trinity 1/12 mod motors from '88 or so that we ran with those 1200SC batteries. Fabbed copper endbells and brushes the size of a grain of rice. Those were the days...NOT. Drove me to go race 1/8 onroad at the time because no need for battery voodoo.

Anyone notice Levanen's TC5 at the ETS? He's got a new motor mount which allows motor to be put closer to center, and the servo is mounted Tamiya TRF 416 style. Are these his own tweaks or this is something AE is testing and plans to release?

His motor mount is a just a standard one modified to move it closer to the centre line of the car, a friend of mine machines bulkheads which do this making it similar to how a 416 is mounted.

Far stronger than the standard items as well

Pm me if you're interested.

Cheers Nick
