is there a problem with the factory tc5r shocks? i am not a big fan of cross breeding my tc.

mrcrm: yes, i am aware they are #57s and also #56s which basically refer to the size of the drill bits used to make the holes in the pitons, but there are two kinds ... namely the older #57s/#56s that came with the XXXS which had rounded edges and there are the newer 10mm #57s/#56s which came out when the changed their shocks when they released the JRXS/JRXS Type R. thats where i am a bit thrown off as to which one it is.

Jerry P.: i figured it out. its the old ones that came with the XXXS and the XXX4 which are the offroad type pistons. the JRXS ones have a different moulding on one side which is needed to hold the piton in place since they are screwed on to the shock shaft rather than the traditional use of e-clips. thanks again!

hey raven, no problems with tc5 shocks if you build em right. use green slime on o-rings and hold shaft with shock shaft pliers so you dont scratch them. ive been racing my tc5 for 2 years and never have a problem with the shocks leaking and they are super smooth

thanks for the info i have had no prob with mine as they were built the way you said with the green slime and they have not leaked i just wanted to make sure there was not a problem the reason i was reading about going to the losi or tamiya shocks.

Hey,IIGQ4U. green slime is a product people use to make the shocks smoother and a tight fit around the o-rings. Its also good for when your biulding or re-rebuild to put some on the shaft then when your ready to put the shaft in the bore lube up the shaft so you don't damage the o-rings with the thread when putting together.

If you want a life time supply of green-slime buy some petroleum jelly "vaseline" its the same thing. Besides the the green colour and the name

When I was going over my TC5 I bought used I decided to change the shock oil and opted to use the Losi 57 pistons. They fit great and worked just as well for me. They fit nice in the shock body so you don't get much if any blow by. My suspension was very smooth for me on a medium rough track with 35wt oil. Very happy with the results.

I do use green slime on my o rings to help with the seal. Has always worked well for me.

How often do you guys completely rebuild the shocks and how often do you simply refill them with oil?

For me if the shocks rebound correctly and still feel smoth I leave them alone and just change the oil. If they are getting a little grabby or I notice the oil discoloring and find dirt in the shocks then I go ahead and rebuild them.

If you run on dirtier conditions you might want to change the o rings more often. Touring car shocks seem to stay alot nicer than my offroad shocks did where I needed new orings every couple weeks because of the amount of dust getting suck up into the bottom of the shocks.

Ill be buying one of these very soon and getting it ready for winter racing,

just a quick question im getting the tc5 r does it have imperial or metric screws?
