Thanks everyone for the set up tips. Great car but we are now allowing non Tamiya cars will shelf the trf103 as worried about parts in the future
A suggestion is when you buy spares for your Tamiya car, store the parts bags carefully. Those parts bags, especially if in pristine condition and unopened, will be of interest to collectors on the auction sites. |
I am looking for trf 103 roller if anyone is selling.
Pm to discuss. |
Does anyone know if standard f104 front and servo mount will bolt onto the trf103 chassis without modification?
|
There is high chance it will. Print F104 plate from manual and compare it with TRF103 plate from manual. Window is your friend.

Until Tamiya is rejuvenating their factory racing efforts we‘re lucky if they keep releasing TRF touring cars. Never say never but I would be surprised if there is any other TRF car besides a potential 421 on the horizon.

I stupidly sold my TRF103 a few years ago thinking a TRF104 was just on the horizon. :p

First Post and a Question
Hello all, new here but not super new to RC. Had some way back in the day. Got back in last year with bashers and quickly lost interest. Back to Tamiya and building. M06R, M08R, XV02, XV02RS, TB05R, TA08R and now the TRF103.
This is only my third ball diff build and it doesn’t seem correct. I’ve torn it down and rebuilt it three times now and each time it presented as built correctly and still doesn’t feel correct. It’s set to the manuals setting but it’s notchy but more importantly the spur gear floats which changes the mesh with the spur…is this correct? Thank you in advance. |
Check if all the washers are seated correctly. Floating spur is correct.

Replace the BD10 bearing with Tamiya part # 53136 one piece thrust bearing. Lube it with black grease, and reinstall with the BD6 spring washers in a “)(“ pattern rather than () as in the instructions. That will cure the notchiness. As said above, the float is a good thing, and an indication that the rings are riding only directly on the balls. Not an issue. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...35bcef4268.png |
To the admins - why has my last post not been approved?
|
Anyways…
Thank you for the help and the thrust bearing suggestion was perfect. Very smooth now. |
Anyone have a good starting setup for the TRF103 on high grip asphalt? Also, what are the best F1 rubber tires to use on asphalt?
