For Norcal Hobbies' long straight, start with 20% drag brake. Increase as needed, but keep in mind the stronger the drag brake, it will increase the pushbrake force as well. Drag/brake force is dependent on motor but I always ran around 30% drag at Norcal. Kept brake force at 100% on ESC but set EPA down to 65-70%. Basically enough that I could stab the brakes and it won't lock up the rear. The fancy ESCs will allow you to have a separate profile for braking frequency. This will let you smooth out the push brake even more. Neat trick you can do is dial in more drag brake on the driver stand by putting more throttle trim on the brake side.

The biggest mistake I see in F1 for newcomers is most of them do not use any drag brake. You set your car up to understeer/push and use drag brake to be less dependent on push brake, and you will have a very easy to drive F1. If you're more skilled with push brake, setup the car for more oversteer, and back off on the drag brake. I will say I have no problems being quick at norcal by using heavy drag brake. If you could modulate the brakes and be more consistent than a drag brake setup, more power to ya.

BTW, go beat Jaime. Hahaha

Dan, thanks for the voice of experience. I'll try more drag brake next race. Good point about brake frequency, this speedo came out of a touring car s it's probably not set the best for F1.

2 weeks to tweak.

Jaime is really good at F1..... it may take awhile

Drag brake is good when you are starting, then your speed will reach a plateau, then you need to learn push brake

Drag brake is not only for beginners. Its the choice of champons as well. I personally would only recommend drag brake. Push brake is for those moments you think you are going to wreck.

I"ve learned to use drag brake as a GREAT tuning necessity. I use the push brake to avoid traffic and the occasional DEEP late braking to help me pass. It really works great at least on asphalt where I'm racing.

I use drag brake for most corners and push brake on the tight 180s or sometimes slowing down from an end of a straight.

Exactly--- I noticed up above you said the drag brake affects your push brake. I have not found that to be true. I've been setting the amount of drag brake I have with the speedo--then I've been able to adjust the push brake with the D/R function on the transmitter. By reducing the dual rate--I reduce the push brake but the drag brake has not been affected. I'm using a Tekin Pro ESC--maybe that has something to do with it??

Default Pro ESC

Just wondering if it is really necessary to run a "pro" ESC for 21.5T or 25.5T F1?

E.g. Hobbywing Justock vs XR10 PRO.

What are the advantages?

I have no idea if it's necessary--it's what I had from 1/12 scale racing!! I'm also using a $69 dollar 1/s cheapo in my WGTR car and it seems to work fine too!! I took the Tekin Pro I had OUT of there because I needed a booster battery for it. The cheapo Core Pace 45!! $75 delivered seems to work better for the 1s!

I also have a Hobbywing justock in my other F-1 and it seems good too.

I've used a Justock, XR10 stock spec, XR10 Pro and a 120A V2.1. No difference in performance that I can tell.

What percentage drag brake do you generally use Tim? Anyone else?

I"m at %70-80 on my ESC. Then I adjust my push brake to the maximum I can get WITHOUT breaking the rear tires loose! That way I can go deep when I need to and still make the corner without skidding.

I'm going crazy with these Volante Tires. I drive the SuperSoft Rear and Medium on a big Outdoor track and dont get a nice setup with it. Any idea with these Tires?

Your not saying what you're getting?? If you can--go to the Shimizu 571/572 combination.
