Cub86 posted the question: Hi. I'm struggling to understand the lay down situation. I run on high bite damp smooth clay and think the conversation would help on my surface but from what I'm reading I need to buy the lay down kit tlr338004. And the dirt gear case tlr332063. But do I really need both from what I've read the dirt case is 1-2mm higher anyway and u don't use the +3mm hubs or the front pivot hrc or Hrc mod. So is the dirt lay down kit tlr332063 is all that's needed to get me a lay down set up that's suited for clay With the components and car I already have. And if I only get the dirt case is there any problems that will need to be addressed IE.. bone plunge . I do know I'll need 1mm spacers on the waterfall to clear the battery. Thanks guys really trying to get my head around this.

Franks response:
Laydown Conversion will work great by itself. You run the aluminum +3mm hubs, the diff is +3.5mm, and you run the HRC front setup. Just follow a setup sheet from tlracing.com (Frank Root).

Dirt Tranny has the diff at the same height as the standard tranny case, and works with the standard plastic hubs. Both are +/- 0mm from stock. When you run this, no need to run the HRC front mod either.

I've found the stock laydown conversion parts to work great for most tracks. The dirt tranny is a great tuning option, but definitely not 'required'.

Something I made, pretty basic. Just to give people an idea.

Is this something so easy I am just missing it?

Yes Ackerman is on the bell crank and bump steer is on the outer one on the spindle. Low mount ball stud is 1mm lower in height than a standard one.

I always wipe on and use a dry rag to wipe off.
Thanks
Simple Green is nasty. When I clean my tires with it, I make sure I have a rag draped over my car, just exposing the wheel.

Instead, clean with WD-40. Spray some on a 1" paint brush from the hardware store and wipe your buggy down. It literally paints the dirt away! Let air dry or wipe off with paper towel.

Can't wait to try it at the track.
Can you post a picture of your set up please.

I'm wanting to do the laydown even though there might be a 4.0 coming out! And getting the TLR laydown is good luck right now.

Thank you

Sure thing, but won't be able to until this evening (currently at work.)

There is a massive exodus of used 3.0's on the for sale forum.

Guess they know something the average joe doesn't. 4.0 on the way.

'But my 3.0 for $300 this week, or $150 next week'

These are small pics. I can email someone if they want bigger ones. It's not perfect, but not too bad.

The two screws are supported by a kyosho shock bushing/standoff and a .5mm (I believe) washer. It's hard to see in the middle pic, but a little easier to see in higher-res.

Lets hope not, mine is barely broken in! The 3.0 is pretty damn good, can't imagine anything needing improved upon! Maybe a kit that was easier to upgrade to a laydown tranny like everybody thinks they need!

I have a 22 1.5 and a 3.0... I run similar times on the track with both cars.

So, my point is, for the average racer like myself, the 4.0 will only be marginally better.

I run on a hard packed, wet, smooth ultra high grip indoor clay track. Tires are everything.

Hopefully just racers jumping ship and going to a different brand. We had 4 racers at my track jump and went to xray, kyosho, and tekno. Now they are "factory sponsored". My 3.0 still killing it.

Sorry if this question has been beat to death but I need your help.

I just built my son his 22 3.0 and we are running a 13.5T. Our track is OCRC.

What Spur/Pinion are you guys running for 13.5? I appreciate any help.

Thanks!

Anyone having an issue with tight fitting Shortys? I have a 3.0 SR and my current shorty packs have to be wedged in extremely tight to fit. Just a 4300 mAh Lipo Factory/Trinity battery.

Sorry I am too new to post a link. They sell these at Amain etc.

It should not fit that tight although I am not familiar with Trinity batteries.
