Is it worth upgrading to the aluminum steering cranks and steering post on the dtm on medium to high bite clay ? Do I need the 17mm or 20mm servo horn ?

Help!!!! On the edge of making a rash decision!! With amain having the 10% off deal and me already wanting the DTM....I'm close pulling the trigger.
Here is where you come in! Local track support is non existent so with that said, what parts should I buy as spares? Track is indoor high bite clay.

You guys are not good enablers!!!

dabear 12-11-2017 10:38 PM

front bulkhead (well top front brace thing) is good to have
in 5-6 months I broke 1 rear arm, 1 front bumper (massive front impact, bumper was worn out)
I ve seen others had accidents with inner hingepins.
I would say get gullwing arms + gull tower so you can get this setup and have kit flat arms and tower as spares.
rear arms, inner hinge pins, front bulkhead

not a ton. I would get the usual breakables. pair of arms front and rear, pair of c hubs and spindles, pair of towers, etc...

I've also heard guys have the idler gear and front top deck break, so get a spare of each.

What set up? I'll be indoor clay running 17.5. You think I need gull wing?

I hope you aren't referring to Club RC being the indoor clay track in Houston...

any opinion on what center diff fluid to start with on carpet?

Assume here that the ball diff option works well, so anything that would be a similar starting point for carpet (thinking 4K)

"Center" diff? ;)

For turf/carpet the "go-to" setting is apparently either 4 gears with 3k (for smaller and tighter tracks) or 2 gears with 7k (for larger, more open tracks) - any type of clay/dirt seems to be pure ball-diff country however. I will not be able to try for myself for another 2-4 months...damn winter and damn incomplete turf conversion on an outdoor-track. :D

lol yeah, too much eb410 today ... :D

3K sounds good here, prefer 4 gears to go with personally but heck, maybe I should try 2 sometime. Anyone got a good breakdown of the advantages of 2 versus 4?

I've always used 2 gear, 10K on carpet but 7K (2 gear) would be fine....I wouldn't even bother with the 4 gear set-up on carpet to be honest. If you need more rotation go down on fluid, if you want more pop out of corners go up on fluid.

Do I need the 17 or 20mm metal servo horn?

I believe the ruddog has both holes 17/20mm.... yes upgrade the steering. The stock has a lot of flex.

Thanks, can you elaborate on the thought process on that? is it that the 2 gear gives you more range?

Ruddog is 16mm / 20mm for range based on Amain's site. I use the ruddog and the 16mm hole, I like it for outdoors it calms the steering, I'll probably go to 20mm though for indoors I am thinking next race.
