is this the proper motor to run in truggy? https://www.amainhobbies.com/hobbywi...401901/p508747
i hear guys talk about buggy and truggy sized motors will this motor fit when using the hobbywing xr8 esc? which 4s lipo is everyone running? which battery connectors are you using? |
I am not sure with that motor and ESC, hopefully the other guys can help you out.
As for batteries I use the SMC 6700 extended packs. For connectors I use XT150 but XT90 are suitable as well. |
First weekend out with the new ET48.3 took the 10 min Amain win. Loving this truck so far. Building the buggy next...

I raced in low bite track conditions last weekend and thought I could use some more overall traction. I changed link positions as follows:
Rear Tower - up and out Rear Hub - 2nd from outside Front Tower - middle and out Front Spindle Carrier - outside After I made these changes I could not break the rear end loose unless I was full turn and full break. I was searching for steering and the truck was pushing. Super easy to drive, but I had to set up for the corners. Still, I liked it and now I can make other changes to get more steering (remove steering stops, lower front ride height, raise rear ride height, etc.) I'm getting back into racing after taking a couple years off. First race back I only got through one heat with my bone stock et48 before we got rained out--we are all at the mercy of the rc gods, are we not? My track is very loose, smaller and more technical than typical 1/8 tracks, with dry, smooth dirt, no big jumps. Like a lot of folks, the rear kept sliding out on me on-power but I need much more practice/race time before making any conclusions on the overall handling. In the meantime, would you or perhaps someone else mind pointing me in the right setup direction given my track conditions? Mahalos |

Lots of folks run "buggy size" motors in truggies. The only HW truggy motor offered is 2250 KV, which would be overkill for any track short of an outdoor motocross track! If you get the XR8, i highly recommend a HW motor to go with it. There can be issues with running other brand motors and the XR8. But it works killer with the new HW motors! SMC are good lipos and I use these connectors. |
thanks for the feed back. i already got the xr8/1900 buggy motor on the way so we'll see how it works out.

im under the impression it's the 44t spur with 15-16 tooth pinions.
|
Oh yeah, you're right. I meant which pinion did you end up with.
|
for the guys that race their truggy. do you use...
for example, a 5000mah battery to save weight or do you just get the biggest you can find, like the 6700mah or something? |

Still going strong

Getting old now but still going strong. Hopefully I've attached the image correctly. Original ET48 pretty much .3 nowadays as stripped down one of my EB.3s for bits. Been through some set ups. 2000 t8 truggy 1900 t8buggy now 1400 t8 buggy on 6s. Run with nitro so needed 22 mins. 4s lipo's heavy and expensive for those run times. 5000 6s weighs less and does it no probs. Popping on the 46 spur ready for Sunday racing as it's twisters on astro turf and need to gear it lower than just the 15 pinion with the big diameter tyres. She's getting retired soon going to get a new .3. Feel a bit sad been a great truck.
