OK guys, I just picked up this buggy and it's my first venture into 8th scale and I had a couple questions.

Is everybody shimming the rear diff by the manual or by feel? I'm sure it will be close out of the box but I wanted some opinions from experienced guys.

I'm going to stick with the stock 43T spur for now. Will 14T pinion be a good starting point with a 1900kv motor?

Finally, I am looking into using the SMC 4600mah 4s shorty packs. Will the balance be alright with a standard motor and the short battery or should I go for the full size packs? Planning to run mainly on indoor clay tracks.

Thanks for the help!!

I run a metal spur gear on my 3.0 and a 15 tooth pinion. I also run a Tekin 1900 in it as well. I run a Venom 5000 mah 4s and us a small piece of foam to keep it from sliding around. I only run mine on a indoor clay track as well.

This is a great video to building losi 8 diffs.

So yes you should put some black grease in each of the outdrive holes and this gets it on the o-rings which is fine.

Losi black grease is fine for the ring and pinion and any CV joints but Casper-RC makes a better grease for these applications if you want to check it out.

Hi,

It's normal to have a loose between the rear arm and the rear hinge pin brace?

Thank you,
Pascal

Yes, that is normal. Not sure why but it was like that on both my 8ight buggy and truggy.

You can use "shims" to put in between the space(s) - front or rear on the hinge pins. But make sure you still have enough play / a little bit of room so the arms can still move smoothly and freely. I use Tamiya shims sets (starts with 0.1mm and other sizes).

The space is required in case you use the increased deg of toe in. you can shim the arms if this bothers you.

Rear toe in does not change with ride height.
Front toe in can change with ride height and is caused by bump steer. The amount of spacers you have under the outer steering tir rod where it attaches to the knuckle determines the bump steer. Changing the upper tie rod's inner location on the shock tower or flipping the inner steering to the balls up or down orientation causes different amounts of bump steer and I usually adjust the spacers to eliminate bump steer when the suspension is moved throughout its travel.
