I use the stock rings. Dont think the sanded rings from Bfast are worth it. I dont think MIP preps the rings either.
|
I put the Bfast kit in mine and gotta tell ya man, I have never had a smoother diff in my life. Have run a half a dozen races on it and it is still as smooth as glass. Have been very pleased with mine.

For anyone wondering about diff rings, I purchased this awhile back.
http://www.reflexracing.net/QTEQ-Dif...rs_p_1065.html It's expensive at first, but if you like to rebuild a lot, or like to have spare diffs, a lot of cars, etc, I think it's worth it. The BFast setup is nice for the initial purchase, but with this kit you essentially can do the same thing over and over. The paper will last a long time. I've done dozens of rings on the same sheet and the cross-hatch comes out looking the same every time. |

Well I wound up getting the JCon ball cups for free...do I try them?
Were all of the popping off issues related to using the hockey stick shaped cups on the inside rear? Or were people having issues with them popping off in other locations? Ahh and an unrelated question: gear diff or ball diff for 17.5 racing on a med-high bite smooth clay track with wood jumps. Here's the track (layout changes a few times a year):
I know you guys that run there are gonna think I'm being a complete ass but I don't get the point of a clay track that has all the jumps made of wood and carpet...I just don't get it, please explain the why?? |

they make their money off dirt oval. The track is converted to offroad with the wooden jumps, but its oval first offroad secondary. I am confused by oval as well. But those crazy guys on the east coast.
I raced dirt oval for years. And it really is huge fun! I grew up in the age of the original Dominator running Top Flight 9 turns on 7 cells.....I'm dating myself now, gotta go.. I was too young and broke to run that class then, but man they were fast!! for the early 90's. |
And if they're cash cow is dirt oval they need to tap into it! Have you guys seen the price of a basic dirt oval car (any class) lately! You don't go dirt oval racing on the cheap these days!
Not on the level that would equal a mod 2wd or 4wd off road buggy anyway. |
I really like the Bfast rings, but you can sand rings yourself, it just takes time to get them flat.
Get a diff ring holder from |
wait for it..wait for it.....someone is gonna come in and say there's NO reason to sand a stock $2 AE ring because they're laser flat to begin with..:tire:

I'm just saying I've burned my finger tips down to MI5 standards and still had moon craters with 400 grit...but that's me. I must have gotten a bad set.

Racer1812 - you got the answer already...yea oval racing is big there...I'm just happy to have a place to run that's 112mi from my house. Man we need a track closer to home. If I ever win the lottery I have the building picked out and it's gonna be awesome. |

http://www.reflexracing.net/QTEQ-Dif...rs_p_1065.html Yeah Racing has one too: http://www.yeahracing.com/catalog/ba...bu-p-2590.html What I like about that one is the the diff setting tool. No more struggling with holding two hex drivers in the outdrives with one hand while testing the diff with the other. |
