So if i understand this right the 3x1.4 with heavier oil would have more high speed compression (pack, jumps) than running 2x1.6 with lighter but cornering would be similar low speed compression(corners). Is that correct?

That sucks I'm want to try the tapered pistons but don't know where to start.

No big , most of the fast guys don't know either...lol

Been trying tapered, thus far have been disappointed..

The standard pistons are proving to offer the best performance for me.

When you say standard do you mean kit pistons or machined flat pistons?

WHAT HAVE YOU FOUND TO WORK FOR YOU?

I made 2 changes this weekend. 1.6 pistons in the rear and inline electronics. The car sucked. I didnt really crash but lost 2 seconds per lap. I am a firm believer that the 1.6 pistons are crap. At least for me. I will be going back to the 1.4x3's all around. As far as the esc on the tray, dirt worked its way under my servo tape and the battery slid back knocking the esc loose. it was contained with the motor wires. The jury is out for me on the esc in the tray. honestly, changes to my shocks have a much bigger impact in feel than the esc location. I am serious looking at slapping on my t4 chassis next week. my car is way too twitchy for me on my outdoor local track.

Is anyone running the 1.5, 1.1 avid pistons?

+1 for me, 1.4X3's are the BEST I have tried, even better than a set of avids I tried. I run on high bite clay and I swear by the esc in the tray behind the battery. But it works for me so I am leaving it there. I think I wanna try those factoryone shock bushings next. Otherwise I am very happy so far!

This is the set-up I am using, only difference is I use a lil more weight, 1/2oz up front and 1/2oz in the back

I ran those for a few weeks, not bad, IMHO the tapered 1.4X3 are better

Wildcat1971 08-11-2013 08:42 PM

yeah, I made 2 changes, so the esc will stay for now, but the 1.6's are coming out.

I shoe gooed my esc in, it doesnt think about moving.
I haven't heard any good things about the 1.6s' yet.

Not just me , my teammates as well ...:)

The conservatives are sticking with either 1.6 or 1.7 flat piston.

Most have tried the 3x1.4 machined taper including me .
I have been using for the front shocks .

What I do know from testing & my team mates ....

The 3x1.4 machine taper add pack and less grip for the rear shocks .
Less or smoother steering for front shocks...

1.6 flat rear is plusher, less pack , more traction for rear,
More steering for front...

1.7 flat rear better for the extra pack , good for jumps & high traction conditions...
Smoother steering for front shocks ...

Hope this helps everyone ...:batman:

yes kit = flat 2 hole piston

note : using myself

front shock
3x1.4 machined taper 35w
white spring

rear
2x1.6 flat piston 30w
white spring

I've tried many combinations:

1.6 all around
1.7 all around
1.6 tapered all around
3x1.4 tapered all around
1.7 front 1.6 rear
3x1.4 FLAT all around

My findings are pretty much what cherry said. The tapered 3x1.4 definitely lose grip in the rear. Only liked these on really high bite indoor.

1.7 flat with heavy oil is about my favorite for most cases.

1.6 flat really good as well... Especially better if you have tough landings for jumps.

I just yesterday tried out the 3X1.4 FLAT machined pistons... I ran them back to back with flat 1.6's... Seemed pretty good all around. Maybe a little sketchy on the high speed part of the track. We were just practicing for our ROAR region race next weekend. Here's a vid of the track:

Tires were JC green 3D's/barcodes... Dry slight groove

You need to use pads behind the esc so it doesnt move. I use a thin pad between batt and esc. 2 Full pads behind esc. Its all sandwiched together and with normal servo tape nothing moves.

this has worked out well for me.....I'm using 1.6's with centered electronics...

Overall I think I like the esc on the shelf.....I would've tried it behind the battery but the sensor wire comes out of the back of the flow.....
