Yes. I think I was running 74/23 with my 9.5. Drop to a smaller spur gear, and check temps every 3 laps.

That thing must not have had any top end.

Thanks for the gearing suggestion! I'll try that and I'll get a cooling fan for the esc.

Any suggestions for gearing a 13.5 motor?

t0p_sh0tta 06-15-2013 09:01 AM

The ESC shouldn't need a fan with proper gearing. For 13.5 there will probably be ~2 difference on the the pinion.

Wasnt the D3 banned by ROAR? I would go with either the LRP X20 or Reedy Mach 2, I asked before I perchased a motor, and they were by far the favorites. I ordered the LRP Flow Compeetition ESC and X20 17.5t Combo, just waiting for them to get here.

Actually it is the D3.5 that was banned by ROAR.
The D3 is allowed. I have the 3.5 and yeah it is like cheating! But it your track doesn't care about ROAR rules run whatever you want! :sneaky:

Thanks for the clarification, our track follows the ROAR rules closely so no 3.5, I was going to get a Reedy Mach 2, but I saved $20 by picking up the LRP Flow ESC & X20 17.5t Combo. I will pickup a Mach 2 if I feel like I need it, but I dont think I will.

Rcmart has rhe speed passion combos on sale
129 dollar for a reventon pro esc and a speed passion motor is not bad

BTW I upgraded to the AVID clutch. Huge improvement.

That speedo is rated for above 9.5 turn, you are probably putting too much load on it. You might be able to keep using it by going down 1-2 teeth, but I think you're probably geared correctly. Also try keeping the timing low.

+1 -- this was the point of my post. The D3.5 is obviously faster than ROAR approved 17.5's I have seen and it is no longer ROAR approved. I did follow the investigation some but I don't need to think about the details when you see how the motor performs on the track.

And since our local tracks allow them they are quite popular.

Trying the 17.5 maxilla for fun, will see how it does in 17.5 blinky compared to Mch 2

For 13.5 I run about 72-31/32 depending on temps.

Cridd 06-16-2013 07:48 AM

I run a 72/30

Got a radio on the way and heading back to the track after a long layoff. Excited to get back to it. Build was about the easiest I have ever had in over 25 years of racing.

Gap Gear Cover

I find it hard to believe that it's from a crash, but I've got a big gap at the top of my gear cover on my B4.2, and a sizable one on my T4.2.

I ordered new RPM coveers, thinking it was the AE covers that were junk, but alas...I've come to the conclusion that the ALUMINUM FT MOTOR PLATE is BENT!!!

My thought is to replace them, but wanted to hear from you guys if it's happened to you. I even considering warping from heat but figured, no way.

I see that some guys have switched to a solid plate...hmmm...

Had it on two cars. The machined grooves make plate weak.
