So I was out in my man cave working on my b4. And I had a genius idea to move my esc center line for giggles this weekend. So I rewired my motor leads and soldered them up. After reconnecting my motor, I preceded to make sure it was all hooked up well and power up my buggy and gave it a little gas...... Then I immediately heard a thud......and the result is below. So I am no longer racing this weekend. As my motor is in pieces. Anyone ever wondered what an exploding rotor looks like? Bam. And it was never run over 130 deg. Anyone wanna bet my viper esc is dead? Anyone think my slator or sensor can be salvaged? I am not sure i can get all the tiny rotor pieces out of the slator.....yippy.
HOLY CRAP THAT'S AN IMPRESIVE FAILURE! I guess I've been lucky so far. The only impressive failure I've had was when I pierced a lipo & turned it into a giant jumping jack... in my kitchen... at 2 in the morning... Setting off all the smoke alarms in the house... & waking up the neighbors :flaming::lol: |

Amain posted the JC fin turnbuckles on their site if anybody hadn't gotten them yet. New escape body for the sc10b is cool too.

local hobby shop got a proline b4.2 body in... so painted it up after racing...
really enjoying the yellow on the track. its "my take" on a cherry-esk body. http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/7...0404020050.jpg http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/4...0404020028.jpg mostly wanted to try out the new proline wing. |
Sounds like you soldered the wires on the wrong posts?

Thats the reason hey tell you not to spool up a motor with no load.

ir was hooked to the tranny and tires were on it. It was not a full load and I never went past 1/3ish throttle. That was my original thought as well. Maybe even the cause. If so, I am the post child for never bench testing a motor, lol.
|
I probably held the throttle for maybe 1-2 seconds. Maybe that is all it takes. oh well. I will just cheer on the kido this weekend and take some practice laps in her car to at least get some track time.
|
I did the same thing after returning from a long hiatus from R/C, a time from which my last motor had brushes.
Just a couple quick pulls on the trigger and "thud!". Then I read that not supposed to run motor unloaded like that. Lesson learned. |

he, but now we all know what a rotor looks like with no magnet, lol. I have 3-4 brushed motors left over and a comm lathe, lol. I am half tempted to pick up a cheap brushed esc. That can do 10 turn. I have 2x QC2's I sold for $15 each.....wish i had kept them, lol. Brushless motors are still a little scarey. I had a 13.5 blow a sensor board a couple months ago and it took out the esc with it. It seems like when the esc or motor goes it like to take the other with it. I am glad my viper esc survived.

Some footage of Ryan Cavalieri and his B4.2 I took while at WCRC this January, he was running the red bodies (I assume because of the AKA deal).
