Could someone explain the 2 hole vs 3 hole caster blocks? Besides the obvious. Why does everyone prefer the 2 hole blocks?

Diff?

I try to adjust slipper, have the nut loose and it slips as I tighten the front never pops off the ground it just makes an ugly slipper sound like it is pissed off. Going to take apart tomorrow but cool car, going to build another one for our 17.5 class.

Are you 100% sure that ugly sound isnt your diff? Known as a diff bark.
The slipper sound -to me- is not bad.
Just a suggestion
-Good luck tracking down the issue

The 2 hole are made out of a stiffer plastic. Many use the carbon parts in the front on higher bite tracks to make the car more predictable.

Cool, thanks. I thought maybe the hole positions were different.

The 3 hole has the extra one on the outside but the A and B holes are the same.

On the big bore shocks, when are you guys deciding to switch from say the 1.7 pistons to the 1.6's? Running carpet here, using the starting setup for big bores but wondering if 1.6s would be better for the conditions.

Kurt (Coach) of Avid formely of AE said that the hinge pin hole for the two hole is drilled vs molded-in as in the three hole. He went on to say that the two hole will sometimes shift in the drilling jig and the accuracy of the caster would be affected. He prefers the three hole.

Cain, I have come to the realization that you just have to try things and see if you like them, lol. Only took 20+ years...anyway, I tried the 1.7s and really didnt like them for my track. The pack was pathetic and the car seems really twitchy. I dropped to the 1.6s and used raz's shock package and really liek the feeling and my laps were much more consistent. You are running carpet with wooden jumps. I would assume that 1.6's would work well, but I never run carpet, so it would just be a guess, lol, maybe the 1.5's are the ticket for you. WC and a few others love the 1.7's, I prefer the 1.6's. For me they were night and day, not even a similar feeling. I consider that change to be a major change. The pistons seem affect the BB's more so than the v2's. I am hoping that the new machined AE pistons give me more of what I am looking for. I am still not liking my buggy with the BB shocks as much as the v2's. But it might be more of a tire issue now.

BTW, changing pistons is pretty easy, you probably al ready do this, but I dont like to remove the shock shaft from the body. IMO running those threads through the orings only ruins them. So i just take of the shock cap, dump the oil, remove the top e-clip, pull the shaft down until the piston falls off, then use an allen wrench to remove the piston. I take great care is not rubbing the allen wrench on the inside of the body. Then put the new piston in and put the e-clip back on. Then top of the shock oil and bleed the shocks. I am sure someone will chime in and tell me I am doing it wrong, but I like it because it is fast for making changes at the track. if I need to change my limiters, I remove the shaft from the body.

what you described about the pack is what I am seeing too on carpet lol. Albeit, I am using losi oil so I was a bit softer than I should have been for the starting the setup, but looking at my setup I am thinking the 1.6's may be better.

You know what, I think I'll just try them lol, worse come to worse, will be pulling shocks again.

No intention to call out ...
Even though I have inform them bout Kurt's statement ...

All my teammates & myself are still using the 2 hole caster block for its lack of slop and tight fit ....

Wild Cat

All my teammates are all still using the 1.7 pistons
for the extra grip , smoother & plusher ride ....

Nothing has changed ....

Its not what we "like"

Its all about what "performs" best on med traction clay ....

Cain , stick with the 1.6 on carpet .....

Carpet
you mostly use a way lower ride height (22mm<>23mm) , nothing else changes cept tires & maybe adding rear sway bar ...

Wildcat1971 02-20-2013 08:58 AM

I am sure it is a tighter hole, but I prefer to have access to more holes.

Cain 02-20-2013 09:01 AM

lol. Don't we all wildcat :)

Cav rocked the Reedy race with 1.6's, just say'in..... I do what ever cav does, because he is a RC god. I even have a shrine in my garage dedicated to him. All praise Ryan C. and the 1.6's
