I've run the TenShock 5200 in my SCT410, and is one of my favorite motors, though my wife drives it in her truck now. I liked it a lot, but the only ESC I could get it to work right with was an RX8. The SCT Pro it came bundled with couldn't keep it from cogging bad and doing silly things often, though the SCT Pro worked great with the Tekin Pro4 4000 that I paired it with before selling in a SCTE. Note that Hobbywing has stated that all future ESCs and firmware updates will NOT work with TenShock motors. I stopped following them at this point though, so if that has changed, somebody please correct.

I've more recently been running the Hobbywing 4700 and doing well with it, and have no complaints.

The Tekin Pro4 4600 works ok, but tends to run hotter and not have as much bottom end to it.

The Tekin Pro4 HD 4300 I haven't tried, but it looks quite good from everything I've seen.

I haven't tried the Novak combo, but a couple folks loved it at the track, until it blew up (feeling slow for a couple weeks before it did).

Lastly, I've just started playing with the Team Powers SC motor that is just coming out. I need a bit more time with it to make it feel the way I want, but it also works quite well so far.
Thanks for the info. I'm gonna give it a shot i traded an old tqi traxxas radio for the sc411 5200kv that only had ten packs through it. Ill be using an rx8 to run it but one more question. With my pro4hd 4300 I'm running no fan on the rx8 with no problem with the 5200 Do you think it will require a fan?

Yes, you may even need a fan on the motor too. Not only did I struggle with heat, the 5200kv was brutal on the batteries.

I've yet to run anything besides the Pro4 4000 where I can get away with no fan on the ESC. I was typically running 65% current limit and no timing with the TenShock SC411 5200 and 15t pinion in the SC410 on medium 8th scale motocross style tracks. Initially, heat was a huge problem on the motor, but after attaching ASC3928 (associated long fin heat sink) with thermal paste or thermal tape (I used tape), I was running 145ish pack after pack.

You can easily and quickly kill a mediocre battery pack with that motor if you don't limit current, but it is a ton of fun.

Going to pickup a Hobbywing motor today was looking at the 4000kv for my SCT410. Is the 4000 the best choice or would I be better off with a 4700kv. I run mostly outdoors and large 1/8 scale size tracks. I have been running a Tekin 4600 and im looking for a little more power/speed and with lower temps and be able to gear up and down as needed. I will be using a Tekin Gen2 RX8 with this motor. Thanks in advance for you advice.

4000Kv all the way. I see guys running the 4700 having to gear really low and temps seem to be a little higher than the 4000Kv. With the 4000Kv, you get more overall torque, less heat, and can gear it to be as fast as anything else while still having plenty of low-end rip. 4000Kv with an 18t pinion is a sweet setup in this truck.

Quick question on motor choice. Reading up as much as I can on the Pro4 HD 4300, but can anyone with that combo chime in. I have a Pro4 4600 I just pulled out of an exo but tempted to switch it up.

Thanks!
The Pro4 4600kv works excellent in the Tekno, it gives a nice balance of torque to top end. I found with the gearing range you have on the SCT410 you can adjust it for very small tracks (ran it indoors carpet, 50 x 50 if that) to large tracks. Even if you go with the 4300kv HD motor, it may be worth while hanging on to the 4600kv just in case you need a ROAR legal motor.

In comparison to the 4600kv, what I found when I had the 4300HD motor was that it smoked it. Loads more torque and a bit more top end. But you really need to set your current limiter right. And I would recommend an ESC that is designed for 1/8 scale and can use that motor. my SP GT2.0 Pro ESC did the job, but it was basically at the cusp of what I felt compfortable with and decided once I got another 550 sized motor to upgrade to Vipers VTX8 due to the sale they had on amain. So far so good.

As it sits now though, I sold the motor and went with the Hobbywing 4000kv as I felt it offered similar power to the Tekin HD motor, ran a tad cooler, and seemed to not stress the SP Gt2.0 Pro ESC as much so my daughter is using that combo in her Tekno.

14T - 16T depending on track length. Same track I had my daughter geared at 14T and I at 16T from what I recall and motor temps were close, hers being almost cool to the touch though she was at 60% power (I told her 75% to get her to drive a bit more conservative lol)

Let us know how they work out for you. I have been thinking of trying these as it sounds like what people have seen for real world pack is a bit better than the stock pistons.

4000Kv as suggested is what I would go with. Offers all the power in most cases you would need and runs well on temps. Great motor.

@Cain.....

Thanks for this advice. I do have an RX8 and probably leaning towards the 4300HD. Hobbywing sounds tempting but don't know why I feel compelled to stay all Tekin, probably a newbie's misconception.....What gearing would you suggest for a large outdoor track?

both are great options. the 4700 definitely has more juice. i run the 4000, but i run it with boost. if i were running on large 1/8 tracks, and wasn't running boost, i'd probably go with the 4700. no wrong choice though. again, both are very strong.

either way, look at ordering from builtrc. super fast shipping and great customer service: http://builtrc.com/hobbywing_xerun_SCT_4700_motor.aspx

I run a HW4700 on Medium to Large tracks and currently geared with 16T pinion. I have yet to see that motor get hotter then 130* all summer long.

The HW4700 does not like added boost or timing if I remember correctly as well.

Next week starts our indoor season, so will be interesting to see how the motor does at the couple indoor tracks in the area. one track is a medium/large indoor track and one is a small/medium track with high bite clay.

I use the Ofna on both my SCT410 and EB48, works fine. You just have to mount the couple on opposite side of the horn compared to how the stock one mounts.

I use the Tekno alum hexes.

Actually for servo horns, the new Tekno Horns are SWEET!!! just find out what spline count your servo is and order accordingly.
