Just put a SCT410 together for my kid and wanted to get a Tekin Motor for it for racing only. Which one would you recommend and what size pinion would you run? Another key factor is I want it to run cool my kid doesn't want to stop until the battery runs low.

Pro4 4600kv and 15-16t pinion (540 size and is roar legal)
or
Pro4 HD 4300kv and ~18t pinion (larger 550 size, though not roar legal)

+1

If you get the 4600, a fan on the motor helps with temps too.

If it's just club racing and practice, do what I do. I'm running the RX8 Gen 2 paired with the Pro4HD 3000kv on 3s. It's no faster than the 4600 on 2s but it runs super cool and I get 18-20 min of HARD running on a 5000mah battery. Several of my friends have since made the change to my setup because they see how efficient it is and how much longer I can stay on track giving me more practice which eventually makes you a better driver. I'm using a 16t pinion if i remember correctly. I've actually written to ROAR as have several of my friends in order to try to have them change the rules for this class as the current rules are kind of antiquated and dont truly reflect the needs of the 4wd sc class anymore. Club racing nobody cares but he wont be able to do any ROAr races with this setup, but honestly, I've never run a ROAR race in my life, however some BIG races or series may use ROAR rules even though not a sanctioned ROAR event so check with the people managing the races that you would like to run. But I say join the growing 3s revolution. Viva 3s!!!

Even when bodies have dimples, I like to use the posts that best match the angle of the body where they are, and which have e least amount of body clip into body support mold. This is usually not where the pre made dimples are, and on many bodies those dimples don't seem to be consistent from one mold to another either. For that reason, I always mark and then ream, rather than looking for a preset hole position. This also let's me put the body where it lines up best for wheels or bumpers too.

Proline got back to me today and sent me a pic of which dimples to use. Unfortunately it was a day late, that being said, it wasnt their fault. I emailed them on thursday and they're usually good about getting back to you the next day, but I didnt know that for the month of August they were closed on fridays, so getting the email today with the long weekend mrant they actually got back to me on the next business day. But I wanted to show you what I ended up using. My buddy made these body mounting pins and they're awesome! They fit into the body post hole then align body into position you want it mounted and then just press down and viola, you have your mounting points to ream out. The pins also screw up or down so u can make sure you have a perfect aligning and the body isnt twisted or crooked.

Need some help on gearing too. Had a Durango with I think a 2.43 internal gear ratio. All I see is a tooth count? Ratio for the tekno. I have a viper copperhead r 4500kv motor that would get hot 160f with a 14 tooth. This is a heavier truck so I'm wondering how a 540 Tekin could do 15-16t is the internal ratio way different?

15-16 will be ideal. I run a 15t with no timing on a medium track and it is too fast!

I normally run a 16 with that motor everywhere and can pull many e buggies by the middle of a good sized straight with it on a fresh pack. I don't run any timing/boost/etc. depending on track surface you may need an additional motor fan or heat sink and some current limiting to stay in a good temp range, but it can definitely do so easily.

A quick series report. Despite missing a week of racing due to our anniversary, and having mysterious electronics heat issues (battery was the problem), I managed to take 2nd in the series for 4wd SC with some great battles (1 lasted most of the race, never more than a turn apart), and my wife took 6th out of a field of 18. In eBuggy Lite I took home the win, and another local fast guy took 2nd in the series with my original EB48, and a Tekno converted Kyosho driven by the owner rounding out the series podium.

The last few club races have gotten 4wd sc called the Tekno class, as only 1 Losi showed up. All the SCs are now pretty much Tekno except a few rookie slashes. Both classes are starting to pull in new people again, as is 2wd sc on other nights, thanks to the temperment of people that race them and the fun and close racing we are obviously having, even amongst the usual sc carnage.

My next larger race should be the final race of the NCSOS series at Rattlesnake Raceway. Hope to see some folks there.
