Anybody running the Avid 2+2 pistons, 1.1/1.5 and 1.1/1.6 What did you find were the benefits, and what did you run for oils. I'm about to make the swap, and with the basic clay setup with 2 hole/3 holes, I ran 35wt/30wt, but needed more pack for the current supercross layout. Was thinking of going with 40wt/32wt......sound close?

XB4 thread members have an excellent Easter Holiday and may the Easter Bunny bring great weather thus to allow some outside track time with your XB4 and other vehicles.

OH! On another topic which was quite funny with all the ideas on what the mystery wood tabs XRAY includes in the various part bags could possibly be. Mystery solved by the Mystery Machine and crew as the wood tabs/sheets are placed in the bags to help adsorb moisture.

Happy Easter!

Cool thanks! That was my best guess.

I have run the Avids and they are a lot like the Schelle 2x1.6 and 2x1.7's. They have less pack then the stock 2x1.4 and 3x1.3's you currently run of course. The biggest benefit to running either set of pistons is that they fit the shock body properly and have a lot less blow by than the moulded kit pistons, therefore better consistency. I ran the same oils as you, and ya, not enough pack. For some reason, the Xray runs a stiffer set up, especially the front end, than say a B44 which will also run the same 2 hole pistons I mentioned above. I am going to run the 2 holes this summer, 550cst (AE 42.5-45) in front, 400cst (AE 32.5-35) in back, 2 dot front, 1 dot rears, and go from there. Shorty configuration. ESC and motor on the left, everything else mounted on the right side. 30g added behind the motor. Large clay track, med-high traction, depending if anyone bothers to sweep it! Lol.

Thanks for the input. I just installed the Avid's, I actually had to sand 3 of them down a bit thinner in order to be able to get the E-clip into the groove......I know what you mean about the blow-by, that's part of the reason I got these, stock pistons have a ton of slop in the shock body.
I wonder if I should be going even heavier on the oil. I use all TLR oils, which I believe are actually a tad thinner than Associated for the same wts...maybe 42/35...?

Hey Kevin . I was running 1.4x1.1 front with 42.5 Losi and 1.5x1.1 rear with 30w losi. Plenty of pack for the jumps without sacrificing anything else .schelle sells the 1.4s in pairs .

Just edited my post, I got 1.5 front and 1.6 rear......
Hey Carl(just realized it was you), thanks. I saw the Schelles but I wasn't familiar with them, and wondered why they were half the money, good to know. BTW, what did you think about the 500,000 in the center diff? I went from 8k/300k/5k down to 5k/120k/3k, but it felt too loose to me that way, going back up now.

Hey Kevin,

What are the track conditions like in running 8k/300k/5k? I was thinking about running 8k/200k/5k for a starting point at my local track. Conditions very packed dirt, fairly smooth, moist this time of year in Wisconsin, med sized with one big straight run into a fairly large sweeper. The rest gets technical but it's fun. If one is smooth on the throttle the technical transitions can really flow thus dropping lap times.
I was unsure about the c diff weight but received some good advice from a XB4 thread member not to start at 100k as lacks torque and acceleration. I have some 300k ordered but wondering what your thoughts are on the above mentioned 8k/200k/5k as a possible nice staring point per my track conditions mentioned.

Thanks my friend and have an Excellent Easter Holiday

@Kevin, yes, Losi oils are lighter than AE oils, so go up at least 2.5wt in oil for a similar AE oil, TLR 30 is similar to AE 27.5.

I'd try 45&35.

That being said, I've seen TV's Tacoma set ups where he will run TLR 42.5 front and TLR 27.5 rear with the 3x1.3 pistons f/r.

If you bought the Avid pistons, you had to buy 4 pistons, Schelle are nice because you can buy them in pairs.

I tried 8k/100k/8k on a medium-high grip hard packed indoor and preferred the slipper to that setup, but now running 8/500/5 and really like it.

I find that the slipper is better for putting down power smooth when squared off in a straight line, but the diff is better when powering off a corner and holding the line when you start to drift.

I think anti-squat and droop will affect what you run in the center as well. It's all about how much power gets sent to the rear wheels. The looser the diff the more it will let the front wheels spin up as the rear has more resistance.

Your conditions sound similar, if anything I would have some heavier center fluid on hand. After running the 120k in center, I don't think I would ever be going lower than 200k, most likely it will be 300k. The thinner fluids were pretty easy to get around the track, but I felt I couldn't push it as hard.

Thanks my friend much appreciated. I will go 8/5 and start at 200k center just because I am waiting for some 300k to arrive. Looks like I really should order
500k as well.

Happy Easter

Hey Kevin,

Thanks my friend. I definetly will order some heavier oils. I have 300k on the way but won't be arriving until early next week. With that being the case I will start with 8/200/5. Hearing you can't push hard enough with 200k I definetly am glad I have 300 on the way and thus will order some 500 to. Nice to know fellas are running the 8/5 combo.

What's the sensus on a good starting point for shock oil weight? I will be using Schelle 1.5 and 1.6 Pistons.

Thank my friend and Happy Easter

The 500 was a lot better . Seemed to be more consistent throughout the main. Could be pushed a lot harder around the 3-4 min mark . The 100-200 seemed to soften up around then.
