For anyone using the avid springs, are you using the truck fronts or what?

Yes. Since its a Short Course truck, use truck springs.

ok, this question is NOT for me. I guy I race with bought some sc10 4x4 13mm shocks for his sc10. I would not have done this, as I feel the springs are too stiff and the shocks are too long. He used the sc10 4x4 shock mounts, so I guess they fit on the towers "ok". I want to give him some advice, but I could only come up with, use some limiters to get rid of all that down travel. The front shocks have the arms pointing 45degrees down without a load. Has anyone tried these shocks and gotten them to work? Also, were you able to find a lighter spring than the blue front and yellow rears?

To answer the questions. No and no. The 4x4 shocks have been tried and tried and I have yet to see anyone get them to work correctly. If they had, I'm sure we would been reading about them for the last few years. He's better off with the stock ones.

Question for J_Bone: I am running the RPM Bypass system and set it up like you recommended in an earlier post (rebound; yellow avid, Losi 40 wt front; red avid, Losi 37.5 wt rear). I am getting little to no body roll. Did I misunderstand this setup? Any advice? I'm thinking of going to the AE 12mm shocks, but hate to give up my new investment in the bypass setup. I just can't seem to throw the truck into the corners like I could before going to the bypass setup. Also any kind of braking wants to swap ends. TIA

I am about to put big bores on my SC10. How many shims should I put in the front shocks. I had five in my V2s and the truck was awesome. I put five in the big bores and I found that they are much longer which obviously effects the droop. It looks like I would need almost 8 shims to equal the droop I had with the V2s. That seems like a lot to me.

Also, what springs? With the V2s I ran red up front and silver in the rear and the truck was amazing.

I am currently running on a medium to high bight, smooth, indoor track.

Thanks

newb to RC racing and the SC10 2wd.... had a question about the top shock mounts on front/rear. Does everyone tighten the shocks so there is no play or should there be a little play?

Wildcat1971 10-22-2012 06:20 PM

the shocks them selves should be free.

You running the RPM or MIP? I think you meant MIP. If so, Try 35wt.(yellow springs) in the front and 30wt (try Batch 1 yellows or batch 2 red) in rear. That heavy weight in front was to accommodate for summer heat (110*F) and the MIP piston which is equal to AE#2. But with cooling temps, go with 35wt. Plus, shock location is critical. If you move the shock out, it will require less wt. oil.

Either motor will be good. The D3.5 is what I would try.
I run a Brushless Hobbies ESC now and my 13.5 is geared 24/75. I would ask around the track and see what other guys are running and start from there. It's hard to say over the Internet and not know your motor, ESC and track to give accurate information. You will need to fine tune it for your self at the track. But a starting point I hear a lot is 26/81. Check your temps and don't let it get to hot.
Good luck!

@Snow, I love the RevTech motors, I have run a bunch of different motors from Viper, Reedy, LRP, etc... But I must say the best all around motor that I have used was the Schuur Speed 17.5. It is stupid fast, runs cool, and has more torque than most of the other motors that I have tried. Now I am by no means a pro this is just my humble opinion... Hope this helps... Check them out, @ schuurspeed.com

Oh, forgot about those. I have not run them, but I've heard they are unreal for stock racing.
