to utilize the mid-motor design, i also have been thinking of the electric conversion for the GT2 which is basically the same platform. Let me know what you come up with for the electric motor mount.

I have an RS 2WD and I'm looking to upgrade my motor from the rtr reedy 3300Kv to something equivalent in speed. Budget is $50-$75. I do backyard family racing only. Something I can get parts for if needed and maintenance...my reedy is the 1st gen motor where they are not rebuildable...can someone please offer a suggestion for a motor for me? Thanks.

try to fine a castle 1410 or 1406 used but in good condition. They are rebuildable and hold up well.

4 pole motors generate more power and loads more torque over 2 pole.

more torque. nice in heavier cars like the sc10. that one was a 4600 kv I think, and thats is all you would need. Make sure your esc can handle a 4600 kv 4 pole first. Castle motors are the favorite backyard motor it seems. And from what I hear, they are very good. Might get one for my kids sc10 also.

Thanks, so would that motor be equivalent to the reedy 3300Kv? Reason I ask, is my Dad and son have a t4.1 rtr brushless with the same reedy motor and we all run in the same races, so I'm trying to keep everyone in the same speed category, as best I can at the moment.

We will need to upgrade their motors as well...will this castle motor be OK for the t4.1, or is it too much for it?

If you want a similar motor with similar power, and by upgrade you simply mean a motor that is rebuildable, try looking at different companies' 13.5T motors (for example, Novak is 3,300 Kv, Tekin is 3,500 Kv, Reedy is 3,037 Kv). All are priced around 80-90 dollars new, but you could probably pick up a used one up for the price range you listed (although used motors make me nervous). Of those examples I listed, I know the Novak is rebuildable and easy to get the individual parts like rotors and stators. You would need to check on the other manufacturers.

Edit: please note my suggestions are all snsored motors. I've never had an rtr so I don;t know if you need sensored or sensorless.

I have been away from my SC10 for about 2 months. Are people really putting 4-pole motors in these things? I would be curious to hear people's experience.

you can always dial out some of the power with the radio trims. Castle makes a 1410 3800 kv motor, but you have to make sure you do NOT get the 5mm shaft version. They might be pricier though. you could also try the hobby wing motors. I am not sure they are rebuildable though, but cheaper for sure.

Great...I don't know how we would dial out the power on the radio trims evenly...I can see it now, my two boys keep upping their trim until someone says "hey, it seems like your car is running faster than mine."

I think if we go 4600Kv, we would all have to go 4600Kv, it would be hard to dial them all down equally. But these are good suggestions, tho. Thanks.

I don't mean to go against wildcat, but if you want something similar to what the other two have, do not get a 4-pole motor. It is just a completely different beast, and I don't think you will find parity with the other two cars simply by taming the settings of your transmitter and/or esc.

Again, I may be a bit of a country boy, but I've never even seen someone put a 4-pole in an SC10 or T4.1 (I'm sure people have, I just haven't witnessed the excitement).

Also, I did some checking and realized you have a sensorless set-up. I am 99% sure you can run a sensored motor with a sensorless esc (just remove sensor wire) but double check with the motor manufacturer once you have decided on a brand and turn. To reiterate, I think you should look at 13.5T motors. Maybe someone else besides Wildcat and myself can chime in here.
