I would do they hybid method. bake the tires off, then use acetone to remove the glue. baking is a little nicer on the foams.

Thanks for the links. Now if I could just find replacement o-rings for the bleeder screws without buying the whole rebuild kit, I'd be all set. ;)

there are no o rings for the bleeder screws... atleast not in mine, and they dont leak.

To save foams and wheels, cut the sidewalls of the tire so you can get the foams out, and remove the tread piece of the tire. Then do the acetone trick (coffee can works great), keeping the rim up in the fumes and out of the liquid. 24 hrs later, the sidewall rings should pretty much fall off, leaving the glue to look like brownish jelly-goo. It wipes off if you do it quickly... Rims and foams saved... :)
Does not do so well on chrome rims... Unless you like yellowed, flaky chrome.

got em all soaking on only one side right now. after however long it takes (guessing 24 hours by your post) gonna pull em out and pull the sidewalls off and then flip em put the other side in.

I just submerge the rim with the cut sidewall completely. Pull them out and there is no glue what's so ever. Then I rinse with water just to remove any acetone before glueing. Its simple.
I buy a gallon jug and then a painters gallon bucket with a lid from Home Depot and use that to soak them in.

anyone running 17.5 in their sc10? What gearing and temps are you seeing? The sc10 just seems so heavy for the 17.5 class.

runnin 78/31 with a stock spec v2 and schuurspeed motor at 30* of can timing. running in large indoor track and coming off at 136*. gonna try different gearing for it here and see if it will go faster

after I posted that, I remembered AE posted Motters setup from nats. He ran a 26/76 with a schurrspeed 17.5. So somewhere between him and you would be a good starting point. Is the truck pretty gutless with a 17.5?

it's not that it's gutless but working on weight savings is key. I'm not saying don't run weight cuz I do and there's different opinions to that depending on driving style and how your setup. I speak with kevin on the regular and getting his inputs on certain things. the kid is fast point blank but his skill set is different compared to mine. we're running almost complete setups and he has his tricks and I have mine lol

I always boil tires. I keep an old pot and lid I picked up from goodwill just for this. use bbq tongs to pull the tires out......

not your bare hands. they were just soaking in boiling water.

it takes about 45 minutes, but it works well and saves the rim, tire and foam.

You could try that. I use the plastic one.

Sviglienzone4 11-15-2012 10:58 AM

Just went to flip the wheels to the other side in acetone and I gotta say it works wonders. pieces of tire pulled of easily (if it hadnt already fallen off) and the other side was already gooey too just from the fumes. they should be done by tonight then ill be able to glue some tires on for the first time. what an adventure.
