I found the steering to be a little smoother with mine. The Losi spindles have longer arms than the associated ones (enough that I had to do a little dremel owrk on the bellcranks to get full throw). You might try the rear hole in the drag link and see what that does?

Anybody know of anything softer than the black rear springs?

Thanks

I'm setting up a B4 for next years outdoor season and wanted some opinions on what brushless motor esc to run. I'm thinking novak gtb7.5, ss5800, or mamba max 4600 or maybe 5700. Our local track will be relaively loose. So far i believe the mamba max 5700 will be too powerful for our track. I currently run my T4 with gtb and a 13.5 brushless for indoor carpet. So I don't have any experience with any thing bigger than that. thanks

I would say since you've already got the speedo and 13.5, give that a try first off. I run a 6.5 in my T4 for offroad and think it's too much. I would imagine a 7.5 in a B4 would feel the same way, especially on a loose track. Try the 13.5 and if you want more go with the next step up motor. Just my opinion, I'm sure others will chime in as well. Or try the B4 forums and ask in the Charlie Perez thread.

Section 8: the black rear springs are the softest spring that associated makes. check out www.rc10.com and there's a list of the spring rates for the front and rear springs....you'll see the black rear's are the softest.

I'll be running mine on a tight carpet track and will see what I can come up with. Still haven't been able to try it yet and theres currently a couple of feet of snow on the ground so no offroad testing until spring at which time I will most likely swapping it out for a 6.5 or 7.5 velocity.

Section 8, are you running on a SUPER slippery surface?

Usually my car dumps the back end and hooks badly with even black springs on it. I usually run silver when the traction comes up a bit.

i agree jim, i didn't like that about the rear blacks either...until i lengthened the wheelbase. what a difference! decreased the pendulum effect, rear traction was batter, it was more stable and steered better without the rear getting squirrelly! best of all worlds for me.

It's a small, damp clay, indoor track. We use dremeled Losi pink tires made into slicks. Lots and lots of grip (unless it balls up and you get tiny marbles on the prefered line, which end up getting swept off with a broom and the track re-watered). I am trying to make the car handle without adding weight to it. I race stock class, so forward traction isn't much of a problem. People are putting 1 oz in front of the transmission, and usually 1/2 oz in the side pockets. WIth out it the car accelerates great with out any traction problems. The lack of weight seems to only be a problem in one turn, the rest of the time I am accelerating before everyone else out of a turn, and accelerating faster. This turn is tear drop shaped (the wide end) and if you are a foot away from the pipe, off camber. It is a medium/low speed corner.

Basically, Since it doesn't traction roll with no limiters front or rear with the shocks on the inner position, it needs more traction.

I have the smaller spur gear on it (and after trimming the transmission) a 18 tooth pinion, with the wheelbase in the medium position. Titanium outdrives, and I trimmed the carbon chassis for some flexibility instead of buying the plastic chassis. Since it appears so light on its toes, some more body roll would probably help it in the rear. I run the battery forward, since with it rearward, it makes the rear stepping out worse.

I am going to try and locate Losi grey springs.

Meanwhile, maybe I should try a stiffer rear spring, with more damper tuning to see if I can get it to stick if the black springs don't work for you guys. Maybe just more front dampening to slow the initial steering down into a corner. Also, maybe try a longer wheelbase with batter back.

I have also shortened the rear camber line from 1B to 1A to see what happens on friday, as well as going from 2 degrees to 1 degree of anti squat since I can trade some exit steering.

Thanks for the chatter, I have plenty of things to keep me busy for another track day.

Go back to the longer/standard camber link length and try .030"- .060" limiter in your rear shocks. That should get the rear to stay in line better. You're talking about Trackside, right?

Also if your forward bite is really good try using 1 degree less anti-squat It will also calm the rear end down on corner entry. Trackside has some pretty crazy traction sometimes. I got dizzy one night following my car around the track. I'd never driven an offroad car that fast in my life!

Greg, get down there on Thursday and race with us in stock buggy. Looks like last Friday had no buggy action. I'm too lazy to write up my setup, but who cares what I have... I started and finished 5th of 9 last Thursday. My current gear ratio is 21/84.
