Hi folks,
Tonight I learned a huge contributor to this forum and fellow Serpent America team driver Charles "Porkchop" Garten is in the hospital. Chops has experienced a string of health issues of late and is currently in ICU on life support.
Please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
Thanks,
Scott

I think the main reason most people are using the conical pistons is they are round and true. Although I've never used the stock black pistons ; I was told when I bought the kit that the stock pistons suck. You have to file them to keep them from rubbing inside the shock body. But the reason many prefer 8 or 10 hole pistons over 4 or 6 is to get more pack out of the shock. It seems that by having more holes of a smaller diameter, you may have the same dampening on small ruts and irregularities, but act very differently on large ruts and when landing off jumps. The smaller holes create turbulence when oil tries to pass through them quickly which creates resistance to flow. In effect this increases dampening when you need it most. It helps you land the big jumps better and still have soft responsive shocks on the rest of the track. I hope this makes sense and helps you.

My prayers go out to you, porkchop! Best wishes for a speedy recovery!!!
Guys I have my setup almost down pat and just wanted some quick shock advice. When running on a large, outdoor, blown out track using CSI black pistons what should I do for shock springs and shock oil. Currently have most of the springs and lots of LOSI oil ANY advice would be great.
I was thinking blue or pink fronts and yellow rears with 42.5 front oil and 30 rear with 2.3 swaybars front and rear?????
Suggest away!!!

I ran 40wt with blues and yellows 32.5. I ran my height at 28 front 29 rear. I would leave the 2.5 front bar. The 2.3 will really make the car turn, to much for many lol. Option 2 rack is a must unless you really run on a tight track.

Billy is making an update for the 811 series to have the shocks mounted on the rear of the tower. Not sure when it will be available.
