SC10 4x4 Thread
From a financial point of view they did very well with the current truck. You would not believe the sheer amount of volume i have sold for the SC104x4 over the last 3 years, its dumbfounding really and the highest of all platforms to date! In its element even today the truck is hard to beat. But with that its completely a fauilure on the other end of the spectrum currently. I have feeling that whatever they come back wont be an effort to re create the wheel but just go with what is working and has always worked! If they release some sort of crazy azz belt driven blah blah blah rig. Nobody will even hesitate to bypass it and then it will be a true failure.
I've said it a few years ago that Associated should have made their SC10 4x4 based on their RC8/SC8 platform. Since they weren't doing it, Tekno decided to put out that truck instead. That's too bad because AE could have been real successful with it. The Tekno guys were running SC8's with their Tekno chassis Conversions for the RC8 before they made their own 4WD SCT. Now they have the best SCT on the market, as far as I'm concerned, and the Losi SCTe is a close second.
I understand why they designed the SC10 4x4 with the clicker--They wanted the truck to be 4WD on power and 2WD off power and with the brake (which is how the real 4WD SCTs work), but nobody cared or used the clicker, so that design was wasted.
I was turned off by the belt from the beginning. I refuse to buy another belt driven piece of crap again. Hopefully they make something shaft driven this time.

Did you own one? I never had problems with the belt...
I too have never had an issue with the belt. I have 2 extra ones just in case, but I am still running the original that came with the truck. I have heard a few folks complain about it but me personally, never been an issue.
I've owned some belt cars before….They skipped, stretched and collected foreign debris like a magnet. Now I DO know that the SC10 belt is a sturdy 13mm thick one and is in a somewhat sealed drivetrain. But I just don't care for the belts. The idea behind the clicker is cool, but the way they had to design it for this truck looks so complicated for no reason. Looks difficult to work on and having more parts to worry about breaking just don't impress me. I like the fact that AE was creative in making this truck, just not enough to buy one. I prefer a simple 3 diff shaft driven drivetrain.

Maybe it's just me, but the SC10 4x4 fits my driving style fine. I have
to say that it has been a really good truck for me. I hope parts support
stays around. Might be time to stock up on the commonly broken parts.

The SC10 handling issues have nothing to do with the belt. Belt drives are more effecient than shaft drive (while under power) off power they will drag slightly. shaft drive systems have slop ( drive pins wear). I too have had the same belt for 3 years now and have never replaced it. Its not stretched and it doesnt collect debris, thats what the covers are for!
The handling issues came from lack of center dif and the motor spinning the wrong way.

I think I'm the only one in the world that likes to drive it with the clicker clicking. I'll give up the mid-air control for the ability to slide and back it in to the corners. Works ok when there aren't any crazy jumps... 3 yr old original belt, and I think I only ever broke a steering arm...

The main complaints I've heard were the handling issues like mentioned earlier and the fact that people have trouble finding set-ups that work for them on this truck. I think the lack of that center diff is a major issue too. 4WD really needs one to handle correctly.
I think this truck would probably make a better rally car than a short course truck, sorta like the old TC3 Rally -- But then again, the TC3 was shaft driven.
honestly the truck fit my driving style after I tuned it other than the annoyances of in air pitch control.
i mainly went to Tekno when it was released to share parts with my EB48.
The funny thing though is that the EB48 doesn't really share the kind of parts I was hoping to save in the pit box, suspension stuff so it never really panned out that way, but the handling and assembly was such that I still run it today.
I liked AE's idea in general personally, but in execution it really was lacking in areas I felt it should have been better.
Very curious here to see what they do, and I really hope they push the vehicle with top drivers.

I picked up an sc10 4x4 ft and have been running it the past few weeks with great success. After last weeks races, I noticed the rear output shafts were very loose, so iwent to my LHS to get a rebuilt kit, but they only had a complete diff, so that's what I got. Got the diff built and the truck was good to go for this weekends race. After the races were over (TQ AND WIN) I noticed the truck was very loud, like a chipped spur gear. I tore the whole truck apart to clean/ thoroughly go over it . I didn't see ANY chipped teeth on any gears, with the exception of pulling the new diff apart( I did check the gearbox) I cleaned all the gears and put it all back together.....and bam, still noisy. I had read about the wrong shims being sent with the diffs, could this be the case ? Im not sure what the symptoms of the wrong shims would be. Im really not looking forward to pulling the rear end back apart, without something to be looking for, ppppplease help !!!!!!
