So with summer coming I keep thinking about outdoor racing. I keep hearing about the sc10 4x4 not really being a "outdoor" truck for racing...this will be on a 8th scale track. So should i just put the sc10 on the back burner for indoor racing and get a Tekno for outdoor....or just sell the sc10 and put the Tekno on double duty?
I really like my sc10 an all, I just dont wanna destroy it on an outdoor 8th scale track. Any input would be awesome....just no comments like..."the truck sucks or it's worthless" yada yada. I know both trucks have their pros and cons....just need some insight. thanks- If you need help with a good outdoor set-up let me know ....:) |
Cherry has never raced on an outdoor low bite track, he has no clue. Talk to Cain or someone that has actually raced in those conditions.

sure ignore someone that actually raced it on outdoor 8th scale low bite tracks. And listen to the guy who hasnt, lol. Or you can look at the resle value of the truck. anything that is good and popular will hold its value. What does that say about the $100-$150 FT sc10 4x4 with upgrades being sold here? The sc10 4x4 has its place. It is very nice indoors. It does not require a massive motor and will likely not puff your packs. It is by far the cheapest to buy used and run. Some people even still use 540 2 pole motors in them, because they can. The heavier tekno and scte will work your packs and electronics harder. I own an sc10, b4 and a t4, so its not like i hate AE. In fact, I am a big supporter of theirs, but I wont lie or delude myself in to believeing the sc4x4 is better than it is. I spent 6 months trying to make mine work outdoors and yet my b4 consistently pulled laps that were 8-9 seconds faster. When a 4x4 on an 8th scale track cant keep up with a b4, that is not a real selling point.

How well does the sc10 4x4 run in the caves? Or should I bring my 2wd buggy?

Oh daves, I thought you said caves.

Awesome input guys...i just hope I didn't stir the pot with my questions. I've been an AE guy since my gold pan rc10 back in the day and love the products. I really can't bring myself to sell the sc10 for anything under $200 so i'll probably just keep it and use it for indoor racing.

I never run my track vehicle's out side. There was a guy at 4 seasons that said they are opening a out door track in nisqually valley in a couple months on a large piece of property. I want to hit that with a couple of my out door vehicle's.

I know both trucks have their pros and cons....just need some insight. thanks- Having had the SC10 4x4 and ran in in conditions from low traction 1/8 tracks to indoor tight carpet, I'd say probably the biggest factor in my opinion would be how are the jumps at the tracks you are looking at. I think, well, at least in my opinion the aftermarket has options out there to lock in the rear end (M2C toe block) and send power where needed (RC Shox Center Diff to name one). You also have the rough track part covered by using 2 stage pistons like RC Shox ones. However, the big thing is that its big jump in -air characteristics can feel inconsistent. Also, with the stock shocks in comparison to other competitors may not give you the plush ride you may need. But, if you like the truck, go for it outdoors and see what you think. Heck, with the prices for these being so cheap now you may be happier actually using it than what you would get for it. Part of me is toying with the idea of picking one up for my daughter who has some interest. Even though it would be technically in the same class as a vehicle I already have (figure if they don't like it, would have a vehicle in another class I could run which is why leaning towards sc10b), its cheap enough and durable enough that it could be worth a shot. What you are thinking though, indoor versus outdoor "trucks" was actually mentioned to me by an AE rep as a general idea being thrown out there when we discussed an RC8 based 1/10 SCT. (And NO, the SC8 is NOT that.) |
