So: Another 6 hours at PRCR
Total Laps: 7
Lap 1: Half way into lap, Tap another Truck around a corner, Steering lost. Servo saver exploded.
(1-1.5hr Later)
Lap 5: Heading into corner, cut a little Sharp, Nose into Boundary plastic pipe, Steering lost. Servo Saver Exploded
(45-1hr Later)
Lap 7: Take the double (smaller double than previous pics) land square, little chassis slap, go to turn, Steering lost. Servo Saver Exploded.
I obviously know you're all going to hound me for information to find out how I was 'f*cking up' the install, or actually just being a terrible driver. I can't stop any of you from doing that, but I can say with my word, I was not being an idiot on the track, and definitely have a full understanding of installing a simple servo saver.
Other Notes: Another Sc10 4x4'r had huge belt problems that magically disappeared. And yet another broke his servo saver 20 minutes in too landing a little more rough than I did
Bottom line is I'm shelving this truck until I get the STRC steering kit.

Must have been the day to break em...mine let go checking in for the 2nd round up here...qualified #2, went to check in, turned 2 corners and the damn thing decided enough was enough and went tube hunting...I've had mine since the truck was released and other than 1 idler gear, this is the first thing that has broke on the truck...
Sorry to hear about your little more "decisive" break, drivr. That sucks.

Hello to everyone Im not cought up in my reading cuz of the w/e. I raced on sat with my new center diff and v2 stage 2 shock pistons and all I can say is WOW!!!!! I findly got into the A-main. I know Im not the fastest guy on our track I a B-main kind of guy but with this new stuff on my 4x4 I just wanted to say thanx Mantis for a job well done. Sence it was my frist time in the A-main i did finished last but I had a blast. All I can do is go up from there
a) they had either the idler or the diff installed backwards
b) they had either a pinned top shaft, or TOO much torque on the slipper
One would pinch the gears funny and cause it to prematurely wear, the other put too much power to the plastic gear, especially when landing at full throttle.
I'm going to assume that you didn't put it together wrong 4 times in a row, so my two suggestions are to loosen your slipper just a tiny bit and try to make sure you're not on the throttle too hard before your truck lands off of a jump.
It could be something entirely different too....like maybe your LHS got a bad batch of idlers....they got shipped on a -50 day and got banged around in the delivery truck so they have hairline stress cracks in them... I dunno... but those are a few things i would try if my truck was blowing up idlers.
dude, i feel your pain man. I blew up 4 f*cking idler gears this weekend.......and it was only the 2nd run on the truck. we were running on a huge 1/8 blown out track, and the truck did alot better than the guys on here make it sound. An sc10 4x4 actually won the race, and the 1st losi was like 6th or something, the rest were sc10's.
anyone have any ideas about the idler gears. if this is a constant issure, the truck wont be in my stable long.

trying to plan out which servo to get for this truck. Is greater than 150oz/inch of torque enough? Or should the cutoff be 200oz/inch?
thinking about the spektrum 6040 servo. It's perfect for my 2wd sc10, but not sure if it will be enough in this heavier 4wd truck. I know some people have used the 6040, but wanted to try to get a consensus. Maybe just get a little more oz/inch with the 6090 spektrum if not directly connected?
thanks!

Guys, may i ask..i installed everything per manual, and running cluthbasket.. say 20-30 packs...just to see if i am on the spot here...im running carbon brace, and had no issiue at all with my car what so ever.. im on a 5.5 motor and 5500 Orion saddle..i turned in the slipper a little, and still slip, but OMG what a difference in speed and controll..3 packs from the end, a strange noice on BRAKE...after a half a pack, i toock the car off..and sure..the belt was loose..i tuned it..and no problem.
What is the recomendation, for when you tune the belt to a harder setting ?
Just a Q..
/tahnk you all for tip and trick...and the car is so more fun to drive no since my saddle/rear converison..

I bought a used sc104x4 last month went through the truck replaced seals in the diffs. what a truck.Built tough.JR Mitch set up.Tekin RX8,Trinty5.5 550 can. I race on different styles of tracks and with a little gear change this truck performs awesome where ever I go. "Associated all the way"
Make sure your chassis brace is still intact. You should be able to push both shock towers together and not have the belt tension change. If it does, you need to make the brace longer.

Hey guys my pro 4 4600 will be here tomorrow. Any suggest suggestions on pinion size. Currently running the scx4.5 13/62 and sometimes 14/62. Running the exotech with saddles on mid size track with fairly long straight with lap times in the mid 30s. Thanks for the help.
I've ran this truck the past three weekends at various tracks.
All running in first place in three different mains, the truck broke three times. 3 DNF's in a row. I'm done with the truck.
I've never had an issue out of any of the Associated kits I've ran, between 2 SC10s, B44, T4.1, B4.1, and my RC8.2e.
I love the way the truck ran, it was fast while it lasted.
I'm not going to run a Losi, so I'll just get out of 4x4 SC.
