We were told the track would be open for practice at 8am. so i get to the track around 6:45 as planned, gates opened at 8, I unload everything and get on the track. ran about 10 laps with my Ebuggy and SC and the the RD kicks us off the track and tells us it wont be open until noon???? This was a little frustrating but since i at least got a few laps down on a very slick track i needed to make some changes anyway.
Fast fwd to noon, track opens i had changed fluids on my buggy ,get on the track and out of the blue........POOOF flash fire and lots of smoke! I was able to get out there fast enough to pull the batt plugs and save a complete melt down but it fried my RX,batts and yet another ESC albiet a HW so i dont feel bad about it but sucks none the less. Didnt get upset just means that i have more time to work on SC! I also had ordered some batteries monday that didnt ship out until thursday so its already been a rough start....

The layout was awesome and at first i thought it would be advantageous for the AE. There is a set of quads and also a 35' set of triples that had a 30' straight run up to them. For the first three rounds of SC practice i was turning the quickest laps and my truck seemed to be dialed but i knew as grip came up i would need to make some changes and the track would get faster. What i didnt expect was the Losi's to start jumping the quads and the triples! This caused issues , me and every other SC10 couldnt either one with consistency so this forced me to once again go to drastic changes. Every Sc10 out there seemed to have the same characteristics in big air. The inability to bring the front end down and/or up wreaked havoc and inconsistency. I could do it but not comfortably or even twice in a row...... Sym and I were the only ones there with centerdifs so that had nothing to do with it, not all of us had 2 stage so that wasnt it. I think its a combo of design and weight, maybe some sort of gyro effect from the belt/motor? I THINK I JUST ANSWERED MY OWN QUESTION!THE TRUCK JUMPS LIKE MY RM4 DURANGO DEX21O.......
I am not going to lie, i was discouraged at this point and went through MANY changes and finally got to where it was much better but every other freakin lap i would lose a steering rod end from anything less than a perfect landing????? that never happens but it happened at least a dozen times in 3 sessions. SO what i came up with to help out the situation is a brought all of the arm mounting points to the inside, added max brake in the esc, increased rear oil up 2.5. All of this added together made me feel more comfortable at least where i think i could be competitive, so i went home rested a bit and then installed captured ball ends on the steering linkage.
About midnight the storms rolled in and i mean hard enough to where my kids came downstairs power went off and we has sever flash flooding. Enough to where i could not even get out of the driveway this morning, I took this as a sign and just stayed home. BUT I stuck with the truck and didnt take the easier route and just switch to an SCTE (which i had in my trunk!) I pretty sure i can come up with something to help with this characteristics which indoors or in no wind is not a big deal but outdoors it is.

WHAT A DAY
Were you running on a 1/8 scale truggy track or something? For those 3mm rod ends to pop off you must have had some serious force (or maybe they were worn out?)!

Do you try tapping the brake in the air to nose it down?

I forgot where I saw, read, or heard this but I believe some guys run a little drag brake so that when the truck jumps it'll nose down a little better. I know tapping the brake in the air is a skill but when you do it right and it lands on the downside of a jump it's awesome.

I just put the Exotek inline saddle kit in my Exotek LCG chassis and I'm sad to share that there is no way to fit the RX8, short of hacking the the RX8, modding the Exotek saddle kit, or both.

It's got my wondering if the following would work:

- flip the Exotek bracket around so that the "skinny" tab is towards the rear of the truck. (+1 mm)
- grind the "fat" tabs completely off and use the front of the LCG chassis as the battery stop (+5 mm)
- relocate the screw holes accordingly.

This nets out to 6 mm of additional space which might just be enough to squeeze the RX8 in.

...or I might just have to wait for the AE FT inline bracket, which will be my 4th attempt to work saddles with the RX8 without hacking my goods.

How hot does the RX8 get in your setup?
My buddy runs the RX8 with Pro4 4600 and it never gets hot enough for the fan to come on.
I would just remove the fan and cut the shrowd off.
If you had to you could mount a remote fan.

It's neither the heat or the fan that's the issue. It's simply the footprint of the ESC is too large to fit when using any of the popular inline saddle bracket solutions.

the one guy did it with the b44 mount on the stock chassis, i'm not sure if those batteries are dimensionally smaller than others though

My rx8 fits in the stock chassis with the b44 mounts. I used two pieces of servo tape to lift it up past the battery mount.

so if it fits in the stock chassis it should fit in the exotek. Except with the exotek you have to drill holes. There has to be a way to make it fit.

i would imagine with side by side mounts with the exotek, there would be plenty of room for the rx8. the inline packs eat up space. with the inline mounts i was able to put my novak havos pro sc underneath the belt drive for better balance, and am not running a fan, but if i wanted to, i think it would even fit with the fan. i am running a 4.5 high torque 550, and not even running hot after a 6 minute race....so no need.

the question is, will exotek ever have the side by side mounts in stock again. i am running indoor high grip 5k diff front and rear, i would think with outdoor lower traction and the 30k/5k setup the side by side would be better

well... I started in 10th in the B main, and finished 4th.Not bad considering the amount of skilled drivers at the race. There was not 1 ae truck that could clear the triples, and no ae could clear the quads consistently. I believe only 1 ae quaified into the a main, and one ae got the bump. The changing track conditions made it real hard to get consistency from round to round, or making noticable adjustments. I even tried to run without the center diff, and found I was 1 sec slower per lap on average. My real problem was that I could not get the truck to jump consistently at WOT of the big jumps. sometimes it would go nose up, sometimes nose down. In either case, I could not correct the truck with throttle or break imputs. I tried approaching th jumps evrey way, on throttle, off throttle, and everything in between. I have never had such a hard time driving my truck hard. I am discouraged that I couldnt drive it like i wanted to. On a good note, I had no breakages at all.

You are running the Exotek chassis as well?

I too noticed that it is harder to make inflight adjustments as compared to the SCTE. Tried dialing in more brake but still not enough when the nose pitches up too far.

Here's my cobbled up saddle pack conversion, w/ rx8 under the belt tunnel.

My "kit" uses SCRT10 hinge pin holders, 3 of them at least, I lost one from my first attempt at saddle packs. I'm using the stock divider piece turned sideways to keep the saddle from moving backwards. They can't move forward at all.

This leaves enough room for the RX8. Although I had to grind away a little of the upper case. Without the fan the esc still didn't get hot enough to need it. Although a little more grinding and it would mount up.

Not the best looking set-up, but it works...

Thanks for the pics Vegatron! Right now I'm working on my saddle pack setup with my rx8...I'm using the exotek chassis with the side by side mounts from exotek...they give me a little more room to work with but know that I know they make a inline mount I'm a little perturbed that I'll have to spend more money for another mount...anyway now I know the only way to get it to work under the belt is to take the fan off and hack a little.
