Tried 30 degrees added timing and it made no difference on 3s
Did a few 4s runs today, not enough to get an idea on temps
I had a fairly spectacular crash at around 70 mph, snapped a couple of turnbuckles only visible damage
4s 5000mah 40c Turnigy
0 Timing
Max Amps - 172
Max Power - 2444 watts
GPS Speed - 72 mph
Cheers

Edit: I'm strictly bashing, BTW.

i think you'll be fine if you stick to 2 cells.

I have not tried running the sc401 yet with a sc10 but im betting it would be fine especially in a crt.5 .

Update on temps in Losi Ten-SCTE
Hi,
I have an update on my temps and power experiences with this combo in the Losi Ten-SCTE. I'm happy to report that the HW SC8 ESC and Tenshock sc401 4600kv system has really come alive! I'm really liking it and it does seem to have killer power in this truck.
After reading some suggestions, I dropped the gearing down to 12t 40t in the Losi Ten-SCTE. This brought the temperatures down to a very reasonable 130 degrees. I was very happy with the torque but the top end speed was a bit slow.
I then looked into putting a fan and heatsink on the motor so that I could gear it up a bit. I read that fan's usually don't help as much as heat sinks. Plus I read that if your fan stops, you can damage your electronics. Since I was just doing some testing, I decided to make my own heatsink from an old CPU heatsink. My frankensink is in the picture below. One thing that I did to help heat transfer was to add some arctic silver between the motor and heatsink. The nice thing about this setup is it's passive and just works all the time.
Let me tell you, this device worked like a charm. It dropped the temp's on the 12t down to 100-110 degree range. I then decided to gear back up with the 14t. Let me tell you, this truck explodes with a 14t and this motor. It's super fast! Now, with the heat sink, my temps with the 14t 40t combo never topped 130 degerees. I raced it all night Saturday night and ended up taking 3rd overall in the A-main.
This system does have the power to carry the Losi around, you just need to cool the motor a little bit. A couple of the guys came up to me after the race and was asking me about my system. They're both running RX8's with the SCX 4.5 setup. They couldn't belive my $130 shipped system smoked their $300 electronics. It was great!

After my race on Saturday I was able to trade my Losi Ten-SCTE for an AE SC10 4x4. I'm finishing the build tonight and hope to race it on Friday. I'll report back how it does. I suspect it will be incredibly lethal in this truck. Last week a friend smoked everyone with the Castle 3800 4-pole. This Tenshock 4600kv is much more stout with the 5mm shaft. I can't wait to seek how fast this truck is with this combo.

what were your temps before the heatsink with the 14T?

Eagerly awaiting how you do with the SC10 4x4

I plan to use the tenshock sc401 on a Hyper 10TT (4wd 1/10 truggy).
I'm using 2S lipos in 45C and 5000mah.
I can't decide myself wether to choose the 4000kv or the 4600kv, what do you think?
I'll use the hyper 10TT on 1/10 tracks (astro and clay) and might do some racing action during the winter in an indoor astro track. I need the system to be smooth and efficient.

Is there going to be room for a heatsink on the motor though? looks tight to me!

I did not get an accurate reading with a temp gun before the heatsink so I can't say for sure. What I can tell you is it was pretty hot after a five minute race. There was a hot smell and I couldn't hold my finger on it. I had some other racers see what they thought and we all agreed it was probably greater than 150 if not 180. Honestly, it would have probably been ok but I really like to take care of my electronics. If I can keep everything cool, that's what I like to do.
