maybe that could be the issue..
In my experiences you should always try to keep the epa set at max and gear the motor accordingly. I believe a properly geared motor at 100epa will be more efficient than an overgeared motor at 80epa.

You need to get the 13mm option rotor. I ran a SC4x 4.5 with that rotor and a 16T pinion this weekend and I was getting temps in the 145 range.

i am having motor temp issues.. big time.. here is what i have..

Tekin SC4x 4.5. Ko Propo BMC speedo.

the front page says 13-16 pinion. i had a 15 on there.. and its crazy fast.. and temps were in the 200 range after 5 min heat with the end point turned down to like 65.. i went to a 13t pinion, and it was in the 180 range after 5 mins. still had the End point turned down.. it was at 75. put on a 12t.. and the temps stayed the same. 175-180 after 5 mins.. the 10min main, came off in the 190's.

Is there something i need to look at? maybe in the speedo? would thicker gage wire help with temps? i think i got 13ga wire right now. i see most people are at 12ga.

Speedo temps were down, but i also have the fan and heat sink on it.

i will look for a motor heat sink.

any ideas?

other than that.. the truck was great to drive.

I completely agree with that.. and when i tried.. i ended up with a 12t pinion.. on the stock spur.. crazy fast.. i am going to reset everything on the ESC.. see if that has anything to do with it..

i just went by what everyone said.. 13-16t pinion for the 4.5 motor.. and i ended up at 12t.. and still had to turn it down.. cuz it was so fast..

The ESC is a KO Propo BMC 1.5.

Also check your bearings, a binding can cause heat. If some of them are not rolling smoothly, then clean or replace them.

keep with the 12t and play with the esc settings. I'm running a Trinity 4.5 monster hp 550 on a RX8 speedo. I made some esc changes with power delivery and it helped a ton on temps. I generally temp in the 150 range after a 6 min run. There shouldn't be too much difference between the two motors

Love it. I much prefer the looks of factory race trucks over the frou frou paint schemes (flames, tribal, etc.) that a lot of guys have.

This may be why you're temping a little hot. Try Ty Campbell's setup sheet from the Tekin Hotwire page. Make sure you set your current limiter to 80% and 0 drag brake, timing advance no higher than 10 deg. You should be temping in the 160 range with that pinion on that motor with those settings.

The only setup I see for Ty Campbell is for a 2WD short course truck.....with a 10.5T motor.....is that the profile you wanted me to take a look at?

I still have the stock grease that came in the truck..........someone mentioned that might be causing the heat issues as well. Guess I will put some diff fluid in them.

Click the RX8 tab on the top of the setups page to go from RS to RX8 setups.
