TLR 22 Racing Buggy Thread
Too much. That motor is about right for a 6 to 7 lb. 4x4 sc truck. Even if you are a basher you will have to de-tune it a lot for it to be drivable.
I think that motor uses a 5mm shaft. You LHS may not have 48p for a 5mm shaft on hand. I have no idea where you'd need to gear it.

What's wrong with that servo? I run the Savox version in my SC truck and love it.
If it's glitching, which mine did, you'll need a power cap to plug into your receiver.

I have 2 VDS-1007 that are 3 years old, and they are still turning wheels, but I have a VDS-1009 low profile in my 22..

whats an excellent motor setup to run in this buggy? I have a kinetic pro ESC and novak HV4.5 but i assume the 4.5 550 can is way too big.

Yes the 550 is way too big. Just get a ballistic 540 size in the turn u want and u are good to go. The kinetic will be just fine

Yeah a 4.5 550 motor is waaaaaay to much for a 1/10th scale buggy. If you are planning to race, go to your local track and see what the stock 1/10 scale buggy class runs for motors. That will let you know what size motor you should buy. If you just get whatever turn motor you feel like, then you will have to run mod. Unlike 4wd SC, 2wd buggy is broken down into classes based on the motor. You are going to want to start in stock, as it will be the easiest 2wd buggy class. Even then you are going to be in for a huge eye opener. 2wd buggy is much harder and much more precise than 4x4 short bus. At the same time it is much more rewarding to drive when you do well.

would the 4.5 540 ballistic size be comparable in speed to the orion r10 with a 7.5 orion motor?
A 4.5 is way too much for any off road application. A 7.5 is as much motor as I've ever used or seen used in a 2wd buggy since lipo became common. Most run a 10.5 to 8.5 in 2wd mod.

I run 8. 5 in my 22b and it's not OC to drive. 7.5 in the truck and I may go lower. That thing is so easy to drive.

so would you say the ballisitc 7.5 and orion 7.5 are equal contenders?
