Fair enough, maybe we are straying from what the OP meant by "spec". One of our local tracks has already established any 1/10 marketed 4WD SC truck will be allowed with 2S and a SC body + SC wheels/tires. I believe they are running 7.5T motors at this point, but nobody has run a 4x4 Slash yet. So definitely it is not destined to be a Traxxas only class at that track. They have had a long standing class (years) that was Traxxas Slash specific. Other brands were not allowed. There is a new track opening and I don't know what their rules will be, but am curious how/if a 4x4 SC class (and SC in general) develops there. I definitely wouldn't want to see it get "brand specific" though, but I do think the original Slash-only class was great for its time.

it definitely shouldn't be a spec class...as for the power...I don't know what systems you guys are running but most systems whether it's an mm5700 or vxl have more than enough power on 2s..however I do think the power should be open..just because someone decides to run 3s doesn't mean they'll win..power isn't everything. Right now my local track runs three classes which is perfect Stock SC which is any RTR with any RTR tires/electrics setup, Mod which is open,and 4x4 Corr which is any 4x4 CORR

You guys are getting out of hand with some of these scenarios. I'm pretty sure that most places will do what my track did/does. People started to whine about Slash Spec because eventually there were a few other 1/10 SC trucks so they opened it up to all 1/10 SCs with some interesting rules. We can run any part of any RTR SC but we have to use a Slash motor. We can run any stock SC sized tire.

For the time being, the 4x4 Ofnas have been lumped in with SC Expert. Our SC Expert is basically a Modified class. Our current series has 1 more race but after that they are probably going to start a 4x4 SC class which will require the use of 1/10 Scale sized SC tires and everything else unlimited. The only caveat to all of this is that the track limits ALL classes to 2 Cell Lipo maximum....no 3S. 1/8 anything only runs with other 1/8 scale. I find it hard to believe that any track will have rules that are drastically different. The bottom line is that 1/10 SC class is pure and will remain that way. I doubt that they will be able to start a Slash 4x4 spec class because it does not allow for any of the other SC 4x4's and I doubt tracks are going to turn potential racers away. At best they may come up with a 4x4 class where everybody has to run the Velinion motor and out of the box truck. That would be interesting to see. Some of the stuff coming out right now is pretty fancy compared to the 4x4 Slash (my opinion only, I've seen them all and my first Slash 4x4 showed up yesterday...so I have a basis for comparison).

I don't think the 1/8 buggy conversions should be allowed into the 1/10 scale 4x4 class do to the weight differences. While it "might" be a handling penalty for the 1/8 buggies to have the extra weight, the 1/10 vehicles will be much more vulnerable to damage when the two different scales come into contact.

IMO, that would hinder the 4x4 class.

Our interpretation of "spec" goes back to the "golden years" when spec was spec. Some of our members believe you can't have a "spec" class with different mfg"s. We allowed all 2wd SC trucks to compete together with a list of "specs". Even though a bone stock Slash won most of the time, some did have issues. We don't and won't turn anyone away because of there setup. We also try to conform to 3 other tracks that are within a reasonable driving distance, One of them has decided to keep stock Slash only !!! One allows 17.5 brushless in SC. Weekly racing we generally don't have enough of each mfg's trucks to seperate, But we do host 3 trophy races that draw from a large area and will probably have to have 4 different classes at these events this coming year.

Mod 2wd SC (anything that didn't come in the box)
Stock 4wd SC (if it comes in the box)
Mod 4wd SC(anything that didn't come in the box)
The whole kicker for us is the "platinum edition". If they made a 2wd "platinum edition" we would have way less issues.

To have a "spec" it helps if all of the contenders are similar...
If it is limited to 2s or 3s max locally that would likely cure some of the heavy chassis attempts.

Other wise run what you got, & drive hard.

It isn't even conceptually fair to have a "spec" class with the 2wd SC's that are out.

I took my 4x4 Slash out for the first time today. Theres no need for a Spec class. Open 4x4 will be fine. Out of the box they are so fast that I was/am shocked. The Velineon system, at least in the Slash, screams. I was the fastest thing out there. Any more motor and it would be totally uncontrolable. Seriously, they are everything that Traxxas claimed. I can't believe that they come like that out of the box and are as durable as a 2wd Slash. I pounded the poor thing and it did not break. I was really surprised.
