I would like to upgrade my steering bellcranks and have read about the STRC kit, which everybody says good things about. I was just about to order one and now I see AVID makes one, except that their set eliminates the servo saver. It states on AVID's site that they have had no issues breaking servos but they do suggest running a metal gear servo. I have a Savox 1258TG, so I am good there, but I don't want to kill it.
It seems that in buggy, where racing etiquette is a bit better, this might be a good option, esp. since lots of guys glue their servo savers together anyway. In short course, there seems to be a lot more contact (esp. at my local track) plus the truck is a bit heavier than a buggy.
Does this sound a good idea?
BTW...I don't bash my SC10, racing ONLY!!

I have a carpet and plywood track near my house and you have the tendency to catch the side of plywood guide wall with one wheel getting hanging of the rail, stuff like that could strip the gears.
Even if you did strip, Savox make replacement gear kits for like $10 for most of their servos. I always keep a spare set in my tool box anyway.

I tell ya what if any of you have the esc's where you can modify the power curve and you are having issues hooking up at your track, just alter that throttle curve to tone it down then bring the power iback n, It worked like a charm at the dusty, low grip track I was at.
I'm so ready to go run some laps I cant wait for the weekend LOL..

Just got a new Castle mmp and 3800 combo for my sc10. Motor has 5mm shaft. Robinson is now making the pinion gears for this set up. My stock Reedy 3300 came with a 87 tooth spur and a 18 tooth pinion. How many teeth on the pinion gear is everyone using on their Castle 3800 motor and 87 tooth spur gear? Castle docs suggest 14-18 teeth for a 2WD sc10. Robinson comes in odd numbers so I am thinking 17 or 19 or???? Thanks

I doubt you would break a servo via normal racing bumping around since the wheels are protected by the bumpers and body. I would be more worried about catching the side of a pipe or a tree root going full speed while bashing.

I am getting a ton of body roll going into the corners, it is so much that it is scrubbing a ton of speed. I am running Chad Due's setup minus the 3 ounces of weight in the back. Any help would be great. I tried running a red spring in the front, but it didn't help at all.

Who woulda thought that so much dirt can get in sealed motor?
I put my old motor on my new sc10 and it was making this hellacious grinding sound. at first I thought it was the tranny but then I got a revelation.
I took the motor apart and I had gritty dirt on the stator near the bearings etc. I blew it out with air, reassembled and put on my truck. nice n quiet now.
anyone run those silent spur gears by chance?

SORRY GUYS. THIS SHOULD HAVE GONE TO THE 4X4 THREAD.
Anyone here running an RX8/Novak Ballistic 550 4.5t combo with Mantis' center ball diff? This is the setup I'll be running and am looking for some ESC settings. I just got the RX8 (replaced my MMP). I got the 60 tooth spur from Mantis. Got a 14t pinion on the motor shaft. I run on an indoor track in winter, not too tight, 1 long straightaway, a triple, a quad, and 1 or 2 tight turns. Just looking to get my esc settings close and then I can dial them in from there for my driving style. Should I stick with the 14t pinion, or go up to 15 or 16?

what surface are you running on? they are good for smooth clay with maybe a little dust on them.
i wanted to try them outdoors but I think the pins are too small but Maifield ran them at the Clash outdoor with great results.

First race will be Friday at a small indoor carpet, don't really care much about top performance at that track, then another the next weekend on an open 1/8 scale with two straights about 25 yards long:

I assume the carpet track is hot shots? I would probably run 19/87 there with around 50 boost no turbo and the timing on the can at the large hash mark. As for loganville, I would run 45-50 boost coming in at 3k ending at 18k and around 12-15 on the turbo 2.0 ramp .22 delay timing at 2 ticks past the large one and gearing 20/84.
